“You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (1Peter 2:9, HCSB)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2, NKJV). Please pray for President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger (western Africa, southeast of Algeria).

ISAAN OF THAILAND (EE-sahn) - Officially Thai people have the right to belong to any religion they choose. However, the reality is that there is real pressure--both overt and covert--on Christians from family members, co-workers and neighbors to give up their trust in Jesus. Following Christ in Isaan is difficult! Those who stand firm and continue to follow the Lord are a tremendous testimony to other believers. Please pray that Isaan Thai Christians will stand firm in Christ and influence many others to do the same. Pray that Isaan believers’ lives will draw more people to worship and relationship with Christ.

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - Historically seen as savage and inferior, even today, because of the degree of isolation in which they live, the Amba (pronounced AHM-bah) remain a people of disregard. Living on the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), their villages dot the small landmass connecting Lake Edward and Lake Albert, one of the poorest areas in Uganda, and they exist by hunting and subsistence farming. Amba culture dictates the appeasement of ancestor spirits, so offerings are made to dead relatives in order to ward off a curse or ensure a good harvest. Pray for God’s supernatural intervention in the lives of the Amba people of Uganda and the DRC so that their eyes will be open to “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Pray that God’s call to witness and minister among the Amba will be heard and obeyed by those to whom He is speaking.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.” (1 John 4:18, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for those facing fear.

The Futa Toro Fulani culture of West Africa breeds a lot of fear and distrust through deception. Often the deception seems innocent, meant to avoid confrontation and maintain peace between family members and friends, but in the end leaves people wary of whom they can trust. This is compounded for seekers and believers by the fear of persecution for having an interest in or following the road of Jesus. These very real cultural factors create a barrier in gathering believers to form churches. When immediate family members are resistant to disclosing their beliefs to each other, how can believers from diverse castes be encouraged to be vulnerable to each other?

Baptisms are to be a joyful occasion of celebrating with a community one of the first steps of obedience in following Jesus. However, in some parts of India, it is not the community event that it should be due to fear and laws. People can be followers of Jesus and not attract much attention as long as they delay baptism or the sharing of their new hope. When they are challenged to follow Christ’s example in baptism and in sharing the news of the kingdom of God, then they come under spiritual attack. They are shunned by their community and their families, and at times, they have to move outside of the village.

* Please pray for strength for followers in India, and ask that they will be used as salt and light in their communities no matter the cost.

* Intercede for the Futa Toro Fulani believers and seekers to allow the perfect love of the Savior to cast out all fear and empower them to overcome the barriers that divide them, enabling them to form a family of believers.

* Give thanks for God’s perfect love that casts out all fear.

“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.” (James 5:17-18, NKJV)

Please pray for President Daniel Ortega Saavedra of Nicaragua (Central America, between Honduras and Costa Rica).

SOUTH ASIAN PEOPLES - The predominant religion of South Asia, Hinduism teaches that one must acquire good karma to end the cycle of reincarnation and reach heaven. There are more than 990 million Hindus in South Asia--that’s three times the entire population of the United States. Ask the Lord to show Hindus who have chosen to follow Christ how to follow Him and still maintain good relationships with their Hindu families and friends. Pray that the local Christian churches will have a better understanding of the Hindu culture, their felt needs, and how better to present Jesus in a culturally sensitive way.

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN SEOUL, KOREA - Please pray for a new jobs initiative among a vulnerable people group that will not only provide young people with important vocational skills, but also spiritual training as well. Please ask the Father to provide local resources and mentors and volunteers to help make this program a sustainable success.

“In the same way faith, if it doesn’t have works, is dead by itself.” (James 2:17, HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for students of theology.

“I have a vision,” says the young theological student who has left a fruitful ministry to be trained in accurately handling the Word of God. His heart remains with the marginalized, the outcasts. “I need a great deal of money”--and names a sum that is unheard of in the West, and even more so for a Christian worker in Sri Lanka. His vision is to create work opportunities for “the poorest of the poor,” while sharing with them the love and grace of Jesus Christ. “This week I am taking the first step,” he says, trusting in faith that God will make a way as he walks in obedience. There are many young men in training at the theological seminary.

The Longido Association and the Maasai of Tanzania Team is reestablishing a Bible School in the Longido district. The national leader for Baptist Bible Schools in Tanzania and approximately 10 men who are leaders in the Longido area met in late 2014 to settle plans to start classes last month.

A member of a minority group in Seoul, Korea, has completed his theological training and has started a new church. He is having difficulty finding support from the broader community. The majority of the church members are young adults who are either in school or seeking employment.

* Please pray for the leader of this new church in Korea, asking that he will be able to find more supporters from the local faith community.

* May God bless the reestablished Bible School in Tanzania and all the students in Sri Lanka with a passion for reaching the unreached with the gospel.

* Intercede for recent seminary graduates here in the U.S., asking the Lord to provide their needs and strengthen their faith as they step into His plan for their future.

“. . . The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.” (James 5:16, HCSB)

Please pray for Prime Minister John Key of New Zealand (islands in southwestern Pacific).

LUGBARA OF UGANDA (loog-BAR-ah) - Pray for the February 23-25 meeting of Baptist leaders in West Nile. This will be the third time they have met for fellowship, prayer, networking, and “casting a vision” for strengthening churches to reach the unreached in the area. The population of the West Nile region of Uganda is more than 5 million, and there are only 80 Baptist churches. This group of leaders has been looking at their own weaknesses and mistakes of the past to chart a new course for the future. They live long distances from each other, and transportation is expensive, dangerous, tiring, and time consuming. Pray for the safety and spiritual sensitivity of this group as they meet to make plans for the future. There are so many needs, such as planting churches among the Lugbara (population: 2.1 million), who have only three Baptist churches sharing the gospel among them. There are also only 20 evangelical churches in this huge area. There is a need for new, visionary leadership; developing stronger marriages for pastors and their wives; local Bible school training; and cooperation for doing evangelism and church planting. Pray that God’s Spirit will bring unity and direction to this group.

TAJIKS OF TAJIKISTAN (TAH-jeeks) - “Many people are hearing gospel truth and receiving materials that will fully explain their need for a Savior. Very few are coming to faith. Please ask the Holy Spirit to move in mighty ways, and pray that many will come into the kingdom. We need Him to provide a breakthrough!”

“He will stand and shepherd them in the strength of Yahweh, in the majestic name of Yahweh His God. They will live securely, for then His greatness will extend to the ends of the earth. He will be their peace.” (Micah 5:4-5a, HCSB)

Please pray for President Harold Martin of New Caledonia (a territorial collectivity of France in the South Pacific, east of Australia).

NORTH AFRICANS OF BELGIUM - Sometimes a Muslim befriended by a believer suddenly goes “off the grid.” Phone calls go unanswered, and nobody answers the door. Did they move? Was their phone stolen? Did their heart become hard? Were they forbidden to continue friendship with a believer? Only God knows. Please pray for the many “off-the-grid” North African Muslims of Belgium to be open to God’s movement in their lives. Ask Him to give them visions and dreams and to open up many avenues to the Truth.

PEOPLE OF WHITE MOUNTAIN, EAST ASIA - February 19, the Lunar New Year observance, will begin the Year of the Lamb, so please pray that this will indeed be the year of the Lamb of God! As university students who have believed in Him this past semester return home for the Spring Festival break, ask that they will be bold and unashamed as they share their new faith with their families and friends. As believers go back to their hometowns, may they have wisdom in knowing how to honor their deceased relatives without worshipping them. May they have insight in how to share the joy they have in their lives with their extended families.
