| Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST December 11, 2013 “Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14, HCSB) WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Porfirio Lobo Sosa of Honduras (Central America). AEGEAN TURKS OF TURKEY (uh-JEE-an) - “I recently sent a text message to a woman to ask if she had received the New Testament she had requested from a website operated by believers in our country. She politely responded that yes, she had received the book and was beginning to read it. However, she went on to say that she feared for her life because if anyone in her family found out that she had the Bible and was reading it, they could take her life. She continued by explaining that she had hidden the book in a certain place in her home. I was speechless. I expressed my concern for her, assured her of my prayers and the Father’s power to answer them, and suggested that she begin reading in the Book of John. What else could I possibly say? This was unexpected and unnerving, yet exciting. For her to risk her safety to get the Bible, hide it, and sit down to read it once her family was out of the house reveals that she’s compelled. Please ask the Father to provide Olivia* with protection and opportunities to read. Ask Him to give her understanding and to prompt her to call when she needs help. Ask Him to save her and her family…it is not too big a thing to ask! He is a hiding place for those who trust in His Word (Psalm 119:114). Pray that she will hide herself in Him.” (*pseudonym) SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN PEOPLES - Southern Baptists have been sending missionaries to West Africa for more than 160 years. There is a rich heritage that has been passed on by the hundreds of missionaries who have followed God’s call to reach the unreached. Today in the Central Sahel Cluster, there are Baptist seminaries, hospitals, schools and churches as a result of this legacy. In some churches, however, the sound doctrine that was instilled has been watered down or replaced by false doctrine. In 2 Timothy 4, we are cautioned not to turn away from the truth. In verse 3 (HCSB) we read: “For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new.” This is not a warning just for churches in West Africa, but for all of us as Christ followers. Please ask God to draw the hearts of these churches back to their first love. Pray for believers to listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and for churches to hunger and thirst for truth.
