Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27, NKJV) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, lifting up those who faithfully testify of God’s peace. Mrs. H loved learning English and committed to weekly meetings. She heard about the Creator through “Creation to Christ” and many other stories. Still, she kept searching for peace, but could not find it. Recently a worker received an e-mail with the news of her father’s death. It crushed the worker’s heart, knowing that her father had not said yes to the Most High God. Upon returning to the city, the worker immediately visited Mrs. H’s home. Again, Mrs. H wanted to hear a story, hoping it would bring peace. The worker gently wiped the tears from Mrs. H’s eyes and said, “You don’t need a story. You need a Savior.” As the worker prayed for the Spirit to work in Mrs. H’s heart, there seemed to be an understanding of the words shared as never before. Workers share, “We met Sandia* and Jay* at the walking track. They told us that they are Hindus of the Lohana Clan—South Asians of Kenya. After months of casual relationship building, we tried to make plans to meet together for a meal. There always seemed to be an obstacle. But after the Westgate Mall attack, we were invited for a meal at their home, along with a dozen of their family members. An opportunity came for us to share testimony and explain our hope in Christ. A couple who escaped from the mall were there and welcomed words of Truth and offers for prayer.” * Please pray for this extended family to want to hear more and to desire the peace and hope that Christ offers. * Ask the Holy Spirit to break through Mrs. H’s and her family members’ fear of abandoning ancestor worship and draw them to Jesus. * Speak words of peace and not discord to your loved ones today. Please pray today for Prime Minister Mohamed Said Fofana of Guinea (western Africa, between Guinea-Bissau and Sierra Leone). AYMARA OF PERU (eye-MAH-rah) - Thank you for praying for the volunteer team from Iowa as they traveled in October to the Altiplano of Peru. They were able to join with an Aymara Baptist pastor to share the Gospel message in Huancane. Here is a testimony from the Aymara Pastor, R: “The first day, about 24 children showed up (for the English classes). By the last day, over 70 showed up. We invited their parents to come as well, but as usual, none came. However, later in the afternoon on Wednesday, my neighbors showed up. They are C’s (a new believer) parents, and I’ve been praying for them for a long time. I was able to share the Gospel message with them for the first time ever. Brother, it was very good!” Please ask that the seed that was planted through this team’s partnership with Pastor R will continue to produce fruit among the Aymara people! PEOPLE OF TAIWAN - “This is the time of the year where we get to say thank you for your ongoing support, whether it’s through financial giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, faithful prayers, or being an on-the-field volunteer, working among us. We value your partnership in ministry. We appreciate that you are willing to bring our needs before the throne room and stand in the gap for our work among the East Asian peoples in Taiwan. A prayer need we want to share with you this month relates to the numerous opportunities we will have to introduce the real meaning of Christmas to students of all ages across the island. Please pray that we will effectively share, and ask the Holy Spirit to be at work in drawing the students to receive new life in Jesus. Pray for voices to remain strong, for travel to be smooth, for the truth to be explained clearly, and for students to be ready to receive the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout the month of December. As we begin to look toward 2014, please pray that more volunteers will answer God’s call to come and work alongside us in our multiple opportunities to share the real meaning of Christmas and Easter. Please pray today for Lieutenant Governor Peter Walker of Guernsey (island in the English Channel). COASTAL SWAHILI PEOPLES OF EAST AFRICA (swah-HEE-lee) - “The truth is . . . life on the field isn’t as glamorous as one might imagine when first stepping off the plane. We aren’t camped under a mango tree every day, bringing the Gospel to masses who’ve never heard it before, or distributing food to starving people on a daily basis. There are plenty of mountaintop experiences like that when we just look at each other in awe because we get to do this for a living, but the truth is . . . life happens, and ministry sometimes takes a backseat when it does. Sometimes we find ourselves broken down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. On our way to the capital to collect a volunteer team one month, the engine of our SUV exploded. Lottie Moon Christmas Offering dollars rebuilt our engine and provided a loaner car in the meantime. Sometimes we find ourselves scooping rainwater off the kitchen floor. Our recently renovated roof cracked in two during a rainstorm one night, flooding our house. LMCO dollars paid for our rent and for the necessary repairs. The truth is . . . we need you and ask you to pray that people will give sacrificially to LMCO this year so we can stay on the field, doing what we came to do--glamorous or not. And pray that the Coastal Swahili peoples will hear the Gospel before it’s too late.” NORTHERN AFRICAN AND MIDDLE EASTERN PEOPLES - The appeal hearing for the beaten and imprisoned national brother, scheduled for October 10, was quietly rescheduled for December 31. The local brothers have speculated that this was to keep the case low profile and out of the media. In the meantime, the brother is out of prison but is required to report to the authorities every three days, facing harassment and intimidation. Pray for the peace that passes understanding in the face of uncertainty. Pray for physical and emotional healing. Ask for trust in the Lord and wise, Truth-filled speech. Pray for forgiveness not only toward the unbelievers who beat him in prison, but also toward the brothers who judged him harshly. Continue to pray for his attorney to have God-ordained wisdom in this case, and ask that he himself will be saved. Pray that this brother will be declared innocent. Finally, pray for the believers who lack freedom to choose their own religion, possess materials about the Savior, or share about Him to be “as wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16) as they boldly live out their faith in the community. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 6:37b-39, NASB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in this Week of Prayer for International Missions. Missionaries, expressing gratitude, have said, “We know you pray for us, so thank you for praying! We cross noisy streets or full streams, climb stairs or mountains, turn up the heat or wish we had heat, and in the midst of a thousand simple daily tasks, we bump against the thought of you. These thoughts remind us that we are part of a large family and that even when we feel alone, we aren’t.” Recently Barnabas* stood in tears as he prayed for a young woman in his church--their missionary. He stood in front of the congregation, confessing that he could not believe the work that God was preparing to do. This young woman was going to the very country that his parents had escaped decades ago during a period of genocide. She would take Christ to the people who had murdered his grandparents. “How can I know God exists?” This question was recently asked by a university student. If you were asked this question, how would you respond? The person asked simply answered, “Let’s pray! Let’s ask God that if He does exist, He will reveal Himself to you.” The student agreed to pray every day for one week and to see what happened. There are many people in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland who doubt the existence of God. What if we prayed every day for the Lord to reveal Himself to those who don’t believe? * Please pray with personnel that God will reveal Himself and those who doubt will believe. * Intercede with Barnabas for this young missionary as she reaches beyond her own community. * Continue in prayer, knowing that prayer is making a difference in the lives of national believers, of those who do not yet know the Savior, and of missionaries serving around the world.
