Wednesday, February 12, 2014 To hear an mp3 recording of the PrayerLine, click here. http://media1.imbresources.org/files/193/19378/19378-106889.mp3 “And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.” (Matthew 10:14, NKJV) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, rejoicing in lives changed by the blood of Jesus. The Bambara Team of Mali visited 10 new villages. In some of these villages, the people showed no interest in the stories told them. In others, they didn’t even want to listen. One man told the team bluntly that the villagers did not need to know anything about what they wanted to share. The team shook the dust from their feet and left that village. In another, the chief said that it would be best if they did not come there, because it would cause dissension in the village. But in three villages, people came to meet the team immediately. The people said that they had heard of the Way many years ago, but could not decide what to do. Since then, they had decided to follow “the Jesus Road” but had no one to tell them how. Five people in three different villages gave their lives to the only One who can save.  A woman in the plains of Bihar, India, heard the Good News for the first time, believed the Truth, and cast aside a necklace given to her by a local witch doctor. She gave up the protection couched in fear and lies, for the freedom Jesus provides. While the church rejoices, her village has persecuted her, at times even refusing to allow her to drink from the well.  Thirteen Miao people of East Asia have come to salvation in the past few weeks. As they move from infancy to spiritual maturity, it is important that their roots grow deep in the Word so that they will bear much fruit. They need courage to longer fear or venerate evil spirits. * Please pray that godly leaders will develop from these new Miao believers. * Intercede for believers in India who face persecution for their faith. * Give praise to the Lord for these five in Mali who now follow “the Jesus Road.”

Please pray today for President Andry Nirina Rajoelina of Madagascar (island off southeastern coast of Africa). AMERICAN PEOPLES - “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15b, NIV). Hope is as ethereal as words whispered to the dying in hospitals half a world away. Hope is as tangible as a pump chugging away on a new well as the project leader shares the living water of Christ. Hope is one of the many byproducts when God’s love is lived out through His people. They take it with them, along with truth, joy and a deep, abiding love. It is astounding how many people seek to destroy hope and hate those who bring it. Pray for your mobilizers this month. Many face difficult decisions concerning aging parents. Many work with multiple cultures, some have experienced unexpected moves, and others live in countries antagonistic towards the Gospel. Your prayers are a lifeline. Your prayers carry hope. keinnod@gmail.com   SWAZI OF SWAZILAND (SWAH-zee) - During a recent Bible study with the women of the Vuvulane and Mountain Baptist churches, one of the women shared upsetting news from her homestead where she lives with three of her children and their children. (She is a widow.) With tears in her eyes, she told the group that her second son had told her, “This is not a Dlamini homestead (she was a Dlamini before marrying); it is a Shabangu homestead, and you need to leave.” Not only has he made his mother’s life very sad and difficult, but he has told his wife that she must leave and take their five children with her. This son has many problems that include smoking “dagga” (marijuana), drinking, adultery and laziness. Pray that this son will find the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Intercede for this family as they deal with uncertainty of their future on the homestead. Please pray today for President Gjorge Ivanov of Macedonia (southeastern Europe, north of Greece). HEALTHCARE STRATEGIES, EAST ASIAN PEOPLES - “‘Don’t talk to her; she can’t talk to you!’ One of the healthier nursing home residents looked in the direction of a fragile woman belted into her wheelchair with a strip of cloth. Undaunted, my local friend walked over to the woman, touching her hand gently. She began asking about her health and whether or not it would be alright to do some simple exercises with her. The frail woman nodded. A few minutes of conversation and exercise brought a light to the woman’s eyes, though she could not say one word. My local friend also shared about Jesus and how much He loved her. Please pray for this nursing home resident and the many others who have yet to know the love of Christ in word and deed. Pray that their hearts will be open to understand the truth of the Gospel and follow Him.” LAST FRONTIER - He is usually the first student to arrive. He greets his teacher, places his books in his desk, and runs outside to play. Reflecting on the previous year, the teacher can’t believe the progress in this student’s life. Though mocked by friends and other students, Drew* showed tenacity and an eagerness to learn English. A smile was always on his face. Looking at him, there wasn’t much to see: a thin young boy, wearing the same dirty, worn-out, hole-filled shirt each week. Yet underneath that untidy, poorly clothed appearance was a heart that was hopeful. In a place where persecution and darkness temporarily rule, the teacher worked with Drew each week, encouraging, mentoring and loving him. We are to reflect God’s heart, a heart to go and tell others about Jesus. In Matthew 25:36, it says: “I needed clothes and you clothed me.” Praise God for the followers of Jesus who helped meet this boy’s need for clothing. Ask the Spirit to use the new clothes and coat to open doors for the teacher to share with his family. Pray for Drew and his whole family to trust Jesus to save them from their sin. Pray that Drew will become a follower whose desire is to send out light to others. Monday, February 10, 2014 To hear an mp3 recording of the PrayerLine, click here. http://media1.imbresources.org/files/193/19377/19377-106888.mp3 “Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.” (Hebrews 13:7, NASB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, giving thanks with you for the movement of the Holy Spirit.  “I remember when our boys were little,” writes missionary Teresa Flora, “if they made a good play at the ballgame, straight A’s on a report card, memorized their Bible verses . . . we would say, ‘That’s my boy!’ Recently in a mountain village, we conducted a medical clinic. Outside, my husband’s pastoral students boldly shared the Gospel. Over and over again they preached, they taught, they explained, they prayed. The result? Fifty-five people received physical help. More importantly, more than 60 mountain Basotho heard the story of Jesus and four became new believers. We couldn’t help thinking of each pastoral student, ‘That’s my boy!’” Two workers with the Mandinka of West Africa had just finished sharing a Bible story with a group of women when the man of the house asked, “Why didn’t you call before visiting?” They had been afraid that this man would tell them not to come, like he did the week before, but they could not voice that sentiment. Instead, they smiled and greeted him politely. As they left, two of the women followed saying, “Don’t call, just come!” As the workers drove away, they felt a little down, thinking that they might not be able to share weekly anymore. It has taken some time to get a group of women interested in hearing Bible stories, and now that the studies have begun, the leader of their compound is starting to push them out. Perhaps it is to exert control over his family. Perhaps he is afraid that the women will follow Christ.  * Please pray that the visits to the Mandinka women will continue and that the women will turn in faith to Jesus. * Give thanks for these student pastors and their bold commitment. * Intercede for your pastor and any who speak God’s Word to you through Bible studies or training.

Please pray today for Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On of Macao (southeastern China coast). CHURCH PLANTING IN ZIMBABWE - Pray for the many people in Zimbabwe who are facing desperate times due to the continued economic problems in the country. Although Zimbabwe is now using U.S. dollars as their currency to stabilize the economy, prices continue to rise frequently for groceries, electricity and fuel, and are higher for just about everything than they are in the United States. Yet most people who are employed earn less than $200 a month. Employment still runs higher than 80 percent, so many people here are struggling to survive from one day to the next. It was reported in the Zimbabwe news recently that 2.2 million people (approximately one-fifth of the population) have insufficient food to eat on a daily basis. Pray that God will faithfully provide for the needs of His children. Thankfully, this year’s rainy season seems to be the best in years and there is great hope that people will be able to grow enough food to help them through the coming year. Pray that God’s showers of blessings will include spiritual blessings upon His people in the form of spiritual renewal. Pray for God’s people to express genuine repentance so that “times of refreshing may come from the Lord” (Acts 3:19). http://www.zimbabweevangelismteam.blogspot.com/   NORTH AFRICANS OF PARIS, FRANCE (PAIR-is) - Paris is a large city filled with people from different ages, races, backgrounds, and religions. This majestic city is truly a tapestry where there is freedom for the truth of Jesus to be shared with those who are searching, and even with those who are not. Some believers have begun teaching English in mostly immigrant areas that are filled with North Africans, and also in Sub-Saharan African immigrant neighborhoods. The response has been good, and there is excitement that some visiting believers will be involved in teaching this spring. Please begin praying now for the hearts of those who will be in these English classes. Ask God to begin now softening them to that they will be ready to hear the truth of the Gospel. Also pray for an Algerian Muslim-background believer, a fervent evangelist, who has agreed to take on a more active role in teaching and leading new believers weekly. Pray for this man and for those he will teach and to whom he will minister. Give thanks to God for Muslim-background believers who have been meeting and have been discipled for over a year now. Praise God for His amazing work in the lives of His people! Friday, February 7, 2014 To hear an mp3 recording of the PrayerLine, click here. http://media1.imbresources.org/files/193/19376/19376-106885.mp3 “I rejoice over Your promise like one who finds vast treasure.” (Psalm119:162, HCSB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for people groups who are either waiting for Scripture to be translated into their languages or who are hearing through unique means. Many Amhara of Ethiopia listen to the “memory cards” they have been given for their cell phones. Each memory card contains all the Chronological Bible Stories, the “JESUS” film, the “Magdalena” film, the “Creation to Christ” story with pictures, the audio New Testament, the entire Bible written in Amharic, discipleship Bible stories, and 150 songs that are Scripture based and are in the Orthodox style. People with these cards can transmit them to other phones via blue tooth. This is not expected to replace “mouth-to-mouth” evangelism, but it’s a great way to distribute the Word of God.  Believers around the country of Tunisia are using Discovery Bible Studies (DBS) to help seekers interact with the Word of God. One couple prints off Bible passages in three languages side-by-side--Arabic, French and English--to share with their neighbors. After the neighbors read the passage, the husband asks them to retell the story in their own words. He then continues to ask them questions that help them discover God’s truth for themselves: “What does this passage mean? What do you need to do about what you have learned? Who can you tell this story to this week?” The long-awaited, complete Bible in Udmurt is currently being printed. Praise God that the printed copies will soon be sent to Udmurtia, where, for the first time, Udmurts will be able to read God’s written Word from Genesis to Revelation in their own language. On the other hand, many of the Tuareg of the Sahel are unable to read and write. In one of their Tamashek dialects, the New Testament is being recorded so that these oral learners can listen to the Word.  * Please pray for Bible translators and recorders that God will bless them with good health, clear voices, and recording sessions that go smoothly. * Ask God to particularly bless the distribution and transmission of materials via memory cards. * Intercede for the Tunisian, Tuareg, Udmurt, and Amhara peoples that they will realize that God’s Word is indeed a treasure.

Please pray today for Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker of Luxembourg (western Europe, between France and Germany). BAMBARA OF MALI (BAHM-bah-rah) - All Malians have been affected by the coup of March 2011--some more than others--but because of all the uncertainty, people have begun to examine their faith and search for truth. They have begun to ask questions about sin and forgiveness. For the first time in a long time, many people are open to a change. Pray that God will use believers here to step up and share their faith through acts of love and forgiveness. Pray for people to hear God’s call to go to these fields that “are white already to harvest.” QIZILBASH-AFSHARI OF AFGHANISTAN - There are currently no known believers among the 250,000 Qizilbash-Afshari (pronounced KIH-zil-bahsh ahf-shah-REE). Though they can be found living throughout Afghanistan, most are concentrated in the urban centers of Kabul, Herat, Kandahar and Mazar. The Qizilbash-Afshari are craftsmen and tradesmen that have assumed a significant political influence since the founding of Afghanistan as a nation. They hold strictly to Shia Islam (a minority sect in Afghanistan, the predominant sect being Sunni Islam). Their culture is one of grand hospitality. Guests are highly honored and cared for. It is not unusual for a Qizilbash-Afshari family to prepare their last chicken for the enjoyment of a guest. Typically upon arrival at their home, a visitor will be offered tea while acquaintance is made or friendship deepened, as Qizilbash-Afshari orient their plans around people over any tasks or events. The Afghan people remain high on the World Watch List of persecution due to the extreme consequences of choosing to follow Jesus. Currently the Scriptures are available in their mother tongue, Dari, as are several resources, both written and oral, including films. The country of Afghanistan has been at war for as long as those living can recall. The poverty the people live in is extreme, with one of the highest infant-mortality rates worldwide and a life-expectancy average of 50 years of age. The needs of the people are countless and ever increasing, yet their need of the truth of Christ outweighs all other needs combined. BELGIAN NATIONALS OF BELGIUM - “Remember Decembers as a child, watching the gifts pile up under the tree? Did your excitement grow with each new day and each new gift? Some had nametags; others did not. Some were oddly shaped and you were clueless as to their content, while others were so obvious from their size and shape that you ‘just knew what they had to be’! You’ve been begging the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest field. We’re experiencing a sort of ‘December’ right now. New members of Team Belgium are going through orientation. Potential team members are awaiting transfer. Short-term team members are engaged in training, fund-raising, and prayer support enlistment in their local churches right now. Wow! We want to run around and shake all these ‘boxes’ to try to guess what God has planned for the future in Belgium. The wonderful news is that whatever God has planned, it’s something great. Praise Him with us for these wonderful plans! Intercede for those in orientation to have good health during this time of high stress, change, and information overload. May God protect them from all attacks as they surrender totally to His call on their lives. Bless those transferring in God’s name. May He prepare them to continue to serve well, although in a new field. Ask God to show those coming short-term how to organize their time so as to be best prepared when they arrive.
