You are My friends if you do what I command you.” (John 15: 13-14, NASB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, giving thanks with you for friends who share Jesus with their friends. Last November when a group of visiting believers came to a remote Futa Toro Fulani village of West Africa, a man there received Christ. In January the group returned, and the man shared that he had led nine members of his family to Christ. But this man has also suffered much persecution from family members and the community. He no longer has work as a tailor, because everyone in the community has shunned him. Now he gathers what firewood he can find in the bush to sell to support his large family. The horse he used with a delivery cart was taken away by another family member, but he is thankful that he still has his cart and a small donkey. Despite these hardships, he will not turn back from following Jesus. Praise God that he is quick to say, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!” After hearing the Gospel several times, Linh* started reading the New Testament that had been given to her, and then she asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior. Next Linh shared with her friend Nhi*, who also made a commitment to faith. The two of them shared with another friend, Cong*, and now there are three new believers in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. As you have prayed for the Gospel to go out and for more to hear, God has answered. * Please pray that Linh, Nhi and Cong will continue to share with their friends and that the Bible study they have started will continue and eventually become a new church start. * Intercede for this Futa Toro Fulani man that he will remain faithful in the face of hardship. * Ask God to give you courage to speak His name to your friends, no matter the cost. Please pray today for President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger (western Africa, southeast of Algeria). HAUSA OF WEST AFRICA (HOW-suh) - “This morning, I awoke before my family and was fixing breakfast while singing ‘Holy Is the Lamb.’ I noticed that my Muslim guard was sweeping the yard and had come close to the window like he was listening (not because I am a good singer, but just to hear the song). I felt the Spirit leading me to keeping praising, and after a few minutes, the guard called my name. He said, ‘I have to go and bury my friend. A good friend of mine just died, and I have to go and bury him.’ My heart broke in that moment, knowing that his friend did not know Jesus. I felt the Spirit lay this on my heart very strongly: ‘Tell My people to pray. Not ask--but tell.’ Pray for the 30.3 million Hausa people across the world who walk in darkness without knowing the truth of Christ’s love for them.” TUNISIAN ARABS OF TUNISIA (too-NEE-zhan) - Recent research has shown that a majority of young Tunisians use social media on a regular basis. Facebook is especially popular among educated young women, and they post and chat in Arabic, French and English. Pray that they will find and “like” pages with Scripture portions, Bible stories, and contemporary music in English and Arabic. Many of these pages have information for people who would like to contact the page posters and get together to discuss spiritual things. Believers in East Asia are meeting weekly with commercially exploited women who are currently trapped within the rampant sex industry to share God’s love and truth. Hundreds more have received Good News materials and are waiting for someone to come and tell them more about this message.  Simon* of “Birmingham” has been a key Wassulu brother in Christ in his African village. He gave in to sin through the enticement of alcohol, and you have prayed for him and the church in “Birmingham.” Simon was doing much better at the end of last year after agreeing to a pastoral accountability partner in a neighboring village. Sadly, he has fallen back into the pattern of drinking, which has further damaged and discouraged the group of believers in that neighboring village. Now two groups have been wounded by his behavior and Simon’s family, as well as his witness in the Wassulu church, are being destroyed. The TA people of North Brazil are inundated with drugs, alcohol and crime, and the TRE are isolated and very poor. L’s mother is a TA descendant, so he has legal access to help these unreached people. Second Baptist Church in Brazil is about to embrace some new areas of outreach including unreached people groups (UPGS) in close proximity to them.  * Please pray for L and M who may lead the challenge to embrace the TA and the TRE peoples. * Intercede for Simon that he will break the grip of alcohol and be restored in a right relationship with his Lord and his family in Christ.  * Pray for softened hearts and prepared ears to receive the Gospel, for bold witnesses from the community to step up to speak salvation to every red-light shop in East Asia. Please pray today for President Daniel Ortega Saavedra of Nicaragua (Central America, between Honduras and Costa Rica). SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - “I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. Surely the righteous will praise your name, and the upright will live in your presence” (Psalm 140:12-13, NIV). There are more than 1 million Nuer in South Sudan. During this time of chaos in that country, they are suffering. The war has ripped apart their families, leaving many women to raise their children alone in a harsh environment. Many children are being killed or orphaned. The refugee camps they run to are very difficult places to live. Please pray that people sharing the Gospel will meet them at these camps. Ask that they will feel the love of God and accept His comfort. Pray that they will be engaged by people who will disciple them. When they finally return home, pray that they will share their salvation all across their homeland. http://prayerthreads.imb.org   TAJIKS OF AFGHANISTAN (TAH-jeeks) - Nawruz is the celebration of the Afghan New Year. This occurs on the first day of spring, March 21. One of the traditions during the time of Nawruz (literally meaning “new day”) is the process of “Ashtee” or reconciliation. New Year’s Day is traditionally a day for grudges and disputes to be forgiven, and it’s a time to begin the new year with a clean slate. Although this is the tradition, forgiveness is seldom seen in this country. Pray for Tajik believers to seek reconciliation with all the people groups of Afghanistan, and have a willingness to worship with believers from other people groups. There have been centuries of war and revenge among the different people groups: Tajik, Pashtun, Hazara, Uzbek, Turkmen and others. Pray that the church in Afghanistan will be known as a place where God gives forgiveness and His followers seek forgiveness from and give forgiveness to others. BANGLADESH - “We anxiously awaited the arrival of a wonderful group of women who were coming to show Bangladeshi children the love of Christ. These women prepared for many months to visit the Light of Faith Center, the Light of Hope Learning Center, and the Light of Life Center in Bangladesh. These centers help keep vulnerable children off the streets, give them a basic education, feed them meals, and teach them about Isa (Jesus) and His never-ending love for them. The women had their first look at ministry on the ground here, in preparation for a long-term partnership, advocating for the children at these three centers. Praise God for all those who support financially and serve personally at these centers. Pray that the women will use all the insight and information they gained to advocate effectively for them. Coming from an international Christian school in another country, this multinational team will be sharing Christ in a variety of ways with the local high school students, 1 percent of whom are Christians. Ask God to open doors for conversations about Jesus, and pray that He will put a desire in the students’ hearts to know Him. Most of the women are Muslim.
