Wednesday, February 18, 2015 To hear an mp3 recording of the PrayerLine, click here. http://media1.imbresources.org/files/223/22357/22357-119907.mp3 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for those celebrating Lunar New Year. The traditional celebration of the Mongolian New Year, February 18-21, includes many Tibetan Buddhist and Shamanist rituals; therefore, as the holiday approaches, many Mongolian Christians will choose not to participate, while others may try to find compromise when faced with pressure from family and friends. They seek the Lord’s wisdom for creative ideas and God-glorifying ways to incorporate different aspects of their culture into their celebration of the New Year.  Can you imagine returning to your hometown for Thanksgiving or Christmas and instead of being met with the warm embrace of family and friends, you are shunned by them? Thanh* is expecting just such a harsh reality when he returns home to celebrate the Lunar New Year this month. February 19 not only marks the first day of the lunar new year but is also the focal point of the “Tet” holiday. Tet is the single most important time of the year for the Vietnamese people. It is a very family-focused time but, sadly, is also accompanied by many spiritual traditions. Thanh’s family are devoted to traditional ancestor worship, together with other animistic and Buddhist religious practices. They have already told Thanh that they disapprove of his newfound faith in Jesus Christ and that he can expect that opposition to be particularly strong during the Tet holiday.  * Please pray that Thanh and many other Vietnamese believers like him will be strengthened and encouraged in spite of such opposition.  * Pray for Mongolian Christians that they will boldly stand up for Jesus and give a clear testimony of their faith to those who question or even persecute them for not following the Shamanist and Tibetan Buddhist traditions. * This year, the Lunar New Year observance, begins the Year of the Lamb. Pray that this year would indeed be acknowledged as the year of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.  (*name changed)

Even when we do make it to our ‘quiet place’ and close our eyes, our own minds betray us with random thoughts. How soon that focused prayer is sidetracked by a to-do list for the coming day! We all struggle when it comes to making time and to concentrating on prayer, probably because it is the most effective, life-changing activity a Christian can be involved in, and the evil one doesn’t like it. Listening to and talking with our Father changes the way we look and feel about others, and changes our circumstances and the circumstances of others around the world. Prayer is powerful and active. When a person is asked to pray for something or someone, they are being invited onto a sacred battlefield and should take the invitation very seriously. We ask you to take up your sword (the Bible), and use the verses that God brings to mind in prayer for our Global Mobilizing Cluster. This is a critical year in which we hope to see many in the Americas go out, joining other teams to reach the unreached, and sharing the gospel across this Globe. Please pray for doors to be opened, resources to be found, and hearts to be receptive to the Word of God. Do not underestimate the difference your prayers make in the lives of others. These students are engaged in these discussions and are serious seekers. They regularly take the Scripture that was discussed back to their friends and family and continue the dialog about the verses. Ask God to give Ben wisdom and insight into their heart issues as he shares with them. Please pray for Prime Minister Sushil Koirala of Nepal (southern Asia, northeast of India). YEMEN - Please pray for the people of Yemen. As personnel from many embassies have left the capital city, many wonder what the future holds for a country that is splintered by different groups who cannot agree on how to run the government. Ask for God’s mercy on the people who will suffer. Pray that in the midst of this chaos, believers in Christ will share with their neighbors and family members that God gives peace to their hearts. Pray that those who fear will have visions and dreams of Jesus comforting them with, “Be not afraid. I am with you.” Pray that many will come to Christ. ARMENIAN PEOPLE OF ARMENIA (ar-MEEN-yuhn) - Training is crucial for spiritual growth. A small village church in the Ararat Plains will host a training opportunity for their members. Pray for a small team of believers as they arrive from Arkansas to lead in this event. This year, celebrations begin with New Year’s Eve on February 18 and continue for two weeks. Businesses are temporarily closed, travel peaks, families are reunited, feasts are shared and packets of money exchanged. Lloyd* and Jane* lived with their two daughters and son in a Northern Thai village that was without any Christian presence. When they sent their oldest daughter to a small, affordable high school in a nearby province, she was introduced to Jesus Christ. Soon she believed and began sharing with her family and friends. As she grew in faith, her resistant family noticed her transformed life. After four years, Lloyd and Jane believed too. When they tell their testimony, they always begin with the words, “Our oldest daughter was the first in our family to believe.” Now they are active in ministry, including the youngest, a young man who loves to sing about his Savior. He is disabled and wheelchair bound due to severe hydrocephalous. Praise God for the faith of this family and others like them!  About 45 miles east of Ufa, Russia, believers from Ufa are now meeting weekly to worship with two new believers in the village of Urman (pronounced oor-MAHN). There appears to be a desire for the new believers to form a new church. In Central Asia, there are three Baloch believers who now have contact with others who will be able to help them in their spiritual growth. These three have the potential to become the first gathering of Baloch believers in their country. Workers among the Hokkien of Taiwan give praise for those who came to Christ in 2014 and for the new churches that were formed. They also pray for God’s continued guidance throughout 2015 as strategies are planned, leaders trained, and disciples encouraged. * Please pray for wise and effective planning as the three Baloch believers meet. * Intercede for the tiny group in Urman, Russia to grow in numbers as well as knowledge of the Lord.  * Pray for the Northern Thai who have yet to hear and believe, and for Christian ministries that are impacting different segments of the Northern Thai population.  disciples, and start new work in 2015.” (*name changed)

Pray that they will radiate the joy of Jesus that is found only in His presence, and that they will continue to learn contentment in every situation. http://southasianpeoples.imb.org/   WASSULU OF MALI, GUINEA AND COTE D’IVOIRE (WAH-soo-loo) - “Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed” (Revelation 15:4). When workers first approached the Wassulu people, there was an extension of sweet hospitality that truly reflected that of the Wassulu culture and most people groups in Mali. However, the Wassulu were not receptive whatsoever to the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ at that time, with representatives from the people group in “Yarborough” claiming that they would always follow Islam. Their response was the impetus for growing a prayer network dedicated to praying for the Wassulu people, which has grown continually over the past 16 years. Praise God today for those among the Wassulu people group whom He has called unto Himself despite the cultural barriers and hardships in doing so! Praise Him for the slow but steady growth of the work among the Wassulu, as His faithfulness has sustained and continued the work in spite of challenges intended to stop an evangelical presence among them. Pray specifically today for the people of “Yarborough,” the cultural center for the Wassulu villages in Mali, and its chief, Zaccheus*, for whom you have prayed in the past. Zaccheus is a highly respected older chief among the Wassulu and has had exposure to the gospel, having read the Book of John for himself. Pray that the Word of God will pierce his heart with the Truth! Across the Bajio of Central Mexico and in Precious Sunshine City, East Asia, many do not know that Jesus died so that they might have eternal life. They do not know that the Author of love desires to embrace them. Everyone wants to find love, and the Chinese are no different. Valentine’s Day has been adopted by many young Chinese, and this month will find many seeking that perfect relationship that will satisfy their longing, their desire for “true love.” Most will be looking in the wrong places. They will be seeking what the movies and novels describe as love, what their peers say is love, and missing the truth that only a relationship with Jesus will truly satisfy the longings that so many feel..  February 14 is a special day in the United States, when children buy or make little valentine cards to give to their friends. People buy chocolate, stuffed animals, or other gifts to tell their loved one how much they are loved. Over in Africa, it can be one of the deadliest holidays ever. Unfaithfulness plays a big part in marriages during the month of February. The epidemic of AIDS spreads so much. Human means of prevention will not stop this destructive behavior; only the Word of God being alive in the hearts of the Kalanga of Botswana and Zimbabwe will. Thank you for praying for the Kalanga people. * Please pray for faithfulness in marriage among the Kalanga, as well as purity among the youth and unmarried adults. * Pray for times of openness among the people of Beijing and Precious Sunshine City, East Asia leading to conversations about the love of God.  * Intercede for the millions of lives in the Bajio of Central Mexico that God’s light and love will penetrate their hearts.

Please pray for President Thein Sein of Myanmar (between India and China). BEIJING, CHINA (BAY-jing) - Everyone wants to find love, and the Chinese are no different. PHU THAI OF THAILAND (pooh tie) - Over a year ago, Sue’s* friend started sharing with her about the difference Jesus had made in her life. Sue was interested in hearing more and opened her home to have weekly chronological Bible storying sessions, inviting neighbors and relatives to hear the stories too. Recently Sue has started asking more questions about what it means to accept Jesus and what would happen if she died. Pray that the seeds planted will grow into a fruitful harvest and that Sue’s neighbors and relatives will also seek Jesus. Please pray for Prime Minister Alberto Vaquina of Mozambique (southern Africa). ISRAELI JEWS OF ISRAEL - The Tabernacle in the southern desert of the country, a life-sized replica of the tabernacle described in the Bible, has thousands of Israeli visitors over the fall holidays. Tours are given by Hebrew-speaking guides to show the atonement for sin in words that the Jewish people will understand. The Tabernacle needs more volunteers in the spring and summer this year for this very important ministry to continue. Several Israelis who have taken the tour have returned to their cities and asked believers important questions. Please pray that the Lord will move in the hearts of believers to volunteer and unbelievers to hear with their hearts the Words that were given to them. KANO KATSINA FULBE OF NIGERIA (KAH-no kat-SEE-nah FUL-bay) - “Please pray for the situation in Nigeria. Presidential and gubernatorial elections are set for February 14. Combining the political situation with a military insurgent group’s activity, there is the potential for big problems to occur that could make our situation more unstable. This could affect our work among the Kano Katsina Fulbe and the work of the believers. We ask your prayers for God to intervene and give us peaceful elections that are credible and for the militants not to cause problems. Praise God that the work among the Pa people of Colombia is expanding very rapidly, in answer to your prayers. The national missionaries cannot keep up with the growing demands of people who desire visits, counseling, and to hear the Bible stories. This team continues to pray for leaders among the Pa people and to develop leadership. Recently a chronological Bible storying training time was held in which the participants were taught how to form and tell stories so that they can begin to share the stories with others. Sixteen people attended the training time. Among the participants were three complete families and four youth. This is the first time that young people have been interested in learning how to tell the stories.  National missionary Houston* moved to the Western Province of Zambia to work among the Nkoya. This is not his own tribe, yet he and his family have moved there to reach the Nkoya for Jesus.  In late 2013, you were asked to lift up a Kabyle church that was encountering some leadership challenges. After much prayer, God has answered and has brought those who can encourage and share in the leadership responsibility. Another church has also been established across town. Give thanks that these two Kabyle churches are flourishing in Europe, and the attendees are participating in sharing God’s Word locally. A training session was recently conducted for laymen to become actively involved within the church, and it was well attended.  * Please pray that Kabyle church members will remain faithful and serve with enthusiasm. * Pray that 2015 will be the year of great response in the hearts of the Nkoya people. * Pray that the Pa people in Colombia who participated in training will tell the evangelistic stories to others.
