Please pray today for President Epeli Nailatikau of Fiji (islands in southwestern Pacific). TORCH PEOPLE OF EAST ASIA - Standing on “Fisherman’s Island,” the workers were excited to get to talk with three young college students. After listening to the “Creation to Christ” story, one of the young men who had just heard the story for the first time said, “We know a lot about slavery in our history. But we never knew we were all slaves to sin.” This was an insight into his own culture and his own status before God that only the Holy Spirit could have given him. With tears in his eyes, he and the two other young men immediately believed. Pray for these three new believers as they begin their walk with Christ. Ask that they will be bold in sharing with their friends and family. WASSULU OF MALI, GUINEA AND COTE DIVOIRE (WAH-soo-loo) - In July, the Wassulu Team asked you to pray for S, a ministry partner and leader among the Wassulu church in Village B2. Praise the Lord that a recent visit with him revealed that S has made great strides in tackling his problem with alcohol and some of his biblical teaching responsibilities have been restored to him! His past actions, however, have weakened the church in Village B2, and the Wassulu Team covets your intercession for this small group of believers as they encourage and hold one another accountable in the Lord. Word spread that a special speaker would address the monthly mothers’ meeting at the Bihari tutorial center in Bangladesh. Bihari women packed the room. Everyone agreed that when girls do not feel loved at home, they begin looking for love outside the home. All the women, some accompanied by their daughters, then heard why it is important to guard your heart, mind and body, to guard your marriage--even before marriage--and to guard your witness or reputation. After the meeting, one mother shared that her Bihari neighbors are prostituting their daughter nightly right in their small home. The teacher encouraged the mother to share with her neighbors the message she had just heard.  F slowly unties her colorful head wrap to reveal the row of stitches on the side of her head and behind her ear. There are bruises and bite marks on her arms. Her husband overheard her plans to go to church with a fellow Zimbabwean--a man. Although her intent was innocent, for a Tswana woman to go anywhere with a man other than her own husband is considered betrayal. Her husband became insanely jealous and beat her with a chair and a wooden plank. He works at the local mine and has a steady income. This provided stability for F and her family back in Zimbabwe. She didn’t foresee the stitches.  Many Deaf women in Southeast Asia, who lack education and job opportunities, are forced into prostitution by their families. These women live dark and lonely lives. * Please pray for Deaf women working in the red light district to see and understand that Jesus is the Light. * Pray for F to be wise in her faith and to share the Word of God with other women who need to hear. Pray for her husband to realize his need for a Savior. * Fervently pray for the Bihari woman to speak with her neighbors and help free her neighbor’s daughter from such unspeakable suffering.

BAPTIST PARTNER SERVICES, SOUTH ASIA - “Five years after discontinuing the Leadership Equipping and Development (LEAD) training program in Sri Lanka, we went back to visit with our Baptist partners in that country. It was such an encouraging visit, as we discovered that more than 75 percent of the LEAD students are currently actively involved in ministry and we heard the hearts of the current leadership in the Baptist convention. At their request, we will return this month to do a special class with the LEAD graduates. Please pray for Fred Graham* as he leads this class and for those former students/current Baptist convention leaders who will participate.” (*pseudonym) http://southasianpeoples.imb.org/   CENTRAL THAI OF THAILAND (tie) - The province of Kampaeng Phet (“Diamond Wall”) in Central Thailand had never had a Baptist church presence until the Lord called Pastor Q to return home to start a church. With the help of his family and friends who are new believers, Pastor Q has gathered the first house church ever to sing the praises of God in his village! Pastor Q has a vision to begin Bible study groups in each village surrounding his hometown. Pray for Immanuel Baptist Church in Bangkok, IMB personnel, and volunteers from the United States who will be holding a mobile medical clinic in the area on November 12. Pray that the vision will become a reality. Lift up the people of Kampaeng Phet, Pastor Q, and the ministry of the mobile medical clinic staff and volunteers. Wednesday, November 6, 2013 To hear an mp3 recording of the PrayerLine, click here. http://media1.imbresources.org/files/188/18859/18859-104477.mp3  “He breaks me down on every side, And I am gone; My hope He has uprooted like a tree.” (Job 19:10, NKJV) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for those who think there is no hope. In Japan, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has established a hotline where people can call in for consultation and guidance. Last year, approximately 9.8 million people phoned in—close to 10 percent of the population! Contrary to expectations, more men than women have made a contact. Of these, the majority of calls have come at night from men in the prime of their working careers, between the ages of 30 to 50. The number-one concern that was evidenced? “I have lost my hope for living.” Surely the cries of nearly 10 million Japanese have reached the ears of the Father.  “Death is difficult.” That’s what a grieving friend said to members of the Senufo Supyire team after her brother’s brief illness and untimely death. While the separation that death brings is hard for everyone, for unbelievers like this young woman it is compounded by the lack of hope. Earlier, the team attended a funeral in Mali for a believing friend who had also experienced a sudden illness that took his life quickly. While there was sadness, there was the joyful hope of the resurrection and peaceful confidence of the fact that he had entered eternal life with his Savior. The team desires to share the Gospel with sensitivity when people whose hearts are heavy and grieving, but who may also be more open to spiritual matters.  * Please pray that many more Senufo Supyire people will understand that there is One who saves sinners from eternal punishment and gives hope of everlasting life in His presence.  * Intercede for the people of Japan, giving thanks for the kindness offered through this government hot line but praying that the people will seek Jesus Christ, who is able to provide lasting answers. * Consider those in your life who are living without hope and offer them the joy of Jesus.

Please pray today for Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn of Ethiopia (eastern Africa). DEAF PEOPLES - Workers among the Deaf in Central America are giving thanks to the Lord for the opportunity they have had to go to a Deaf school in a new area. Praise God that recently four of the Deaf youth accepted Christ as their Savior! Pray for these youth as they grow spiritually. Pray for the workers as they disciple these new believers. Ask God to work out the timing for this discipleship training. SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - Missionary Bob Calvert is heading to three areas of South Sudan to teach the use of the “Storying Cloth” to Baptist pastors. In November, he is going for the second session, this time in the southwestern part of the country. Teaching these foundational stories illustrated on the cloth to pastors is vitally important for these fledgling churches of the Baptist Convention of South Sudan, and it provides a practical tool for sharing Christ with those who have never heard. These pastors have a heavy burden for the unengaged unreached people groups (UUPGs) of their new country! Along with learning to use chronological Bible storying for sharing Christ, some of these men will also be trained to help research UUPGs, particularly those groups with whom they are neighbors. Monday, November 4, 2013 To hear an mp3 recording of the PrayerLine, click here. http://media1.imbresources.org/files/187/18770/18770-104080.mp3 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but … against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12, NASB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, praying for new workers as they adjust to life on the field. Two young men have just arrived to work with the Conchucos Quechua of Peru. Alex and Taylor have been sent out by a partnership of several churches to work for a two-year term of service. Life will be different as they settle into an isolated area in the cold, wet, mountainous town of Yanama. Their first opportunity to build relationships will be with the family that owns the house where they will live (the family itself lives on the first floor of the two-story house).  A family of French-speaking Jews who are now believers arrived in France in October. They are young and eager to bring the Word to God’s people. Pray for them to have unity of purpose with other believers and faithfulness to their calling.  Another family has recently moved to a new town in South Sudan and are settling into a new house and meeting neighbors. They are searching for language helpers who will assist them in studying Sudanese Arabic so that they will be adequately equipped to share Christ. Niger personnel are thankful for a young man who arrived in October to serve among the semi-nomadic Fulani. There are many challenges in the Sahel region, including learning a new language and culture and adjusting to the hot and dry climate. As his understanding grows, this young man’s dependency upon the Lord will certainly grow.  * Please pray for this young man to clearly and consistently share his testimony of why he has traveled to Niger. * Pray the Lord abundantly pours out His blessing on these families in South Sudan and in France, allowing them to quickly make deep relationships with those interested in the Gospel. * Pray that the Lord will provide opportunities for Alex and Taylor to disciple the Quechua house owners into active participants in reaching the town of Yanama with the Gospel.

Please pray today for President Isaias Afworki of Eritrea (eastern Africa, between Djibouti and Sudan). ABIDJAN, COTE D’IVOIRE (ab-i-JAHN) - An Abidjan Urban Team member writes: “We live in the biggest city in Cote d’Ivoire; it’s on the coast and is the economic center of the country. Due to many long, hard years of political turmoil, travel to the interior of the country has been difficult and has often been avoided by both missionaries and nationals alike. This has made it hard for a lot of our Baptist churches in the interior to feel encouraged and cared for. They often feel abandoned and left out. Missionaries who used to work in the interior have had to be evacuated during various difficult situations and have moved on to other work. For these reasons, I will be traveling with a national friend into the interior on November 4-14 to visit and encourage our national believers. I will be visiting a city where there has been difficulty in the work and much strife among the churches and believers who are there. Pray for good encounters as I begin to forge relationships there, as this will be my first visit to that city. Pray also for the wisdom to tackle differences among the believers, and ask that they will see that they must forgive, let go, and move on so that the work will not be hindered any longer.” mhmcafee95@yahoo.com   KABYLE BERBERS OF ALGERIA AND FRANCE (kuh-BEEL BER-bers) - “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13). One of the Kabyle churches has been going through some leadership challenges, and as they make a change, they are in need of clear, wise, leadership among pastors, elders and counselors. There will also be a solidifying of doctrine and a clarification of order among the remaining church members. Please pray for the individual who will be leading the transition process. Also pray that God will provide the church with leaders who have a heart to glorify the Son. Pray against the evil one’s scheme of seeking to divide the body of believers. Ask that each one will put on the armor of God. Nov 2: American Peoples Affinity Group’s Partner Connect Training The American Peoples affinity group is asking SBC churches, associations and conventions to “Train and go!” They have developed one unique training model for all of their partners to take advantage of before they head out to the mission field. It is called Partner Connect Training and covers the following topics: Biblical Basis for Missions, Lostness, Worldview, Orality, Empowering Nationals, Help That Doesn’t Hurt, Spiritual Warfare, and other practical aspects of the engagement process of impacting unreached peoples.
