Workers Ross* and Priscilla* have noticed the presence of a new group in their city of North Brazil. During a prayerwalk, as they prayed in front of a building, they saw a sign announcing that it was the site of a future “school” for the group’s religion. Ross and Priscilla are praying that the various groups of evangelicals in the city will be intentional in sharing Jesus with individuals of the people group and with those who are starting this school.   JR* is seeking access into the lives of the Pi people in North Brazil. In October, a team working in sports ministry will arrive in the city of “Maraca” for the second time. They hope for an invitation into the area where the Pi people live and for permission to visit this restricted area. First Church in “Maraca” plans to follow-up with the contacts made.  God’s Spirit is moving in southern Colombia. The missionary couple working in Pasto and its surrounding areas are praying that all details for their Bible storying training will come together without incident. Those attending the training will then reach out to the 104 indigenous communities in the area. One of them, the Q people have no evangelistic witness. Recently the missionary and a national pastor were able to meet the governor of community G and present a project for family development that was well received. The couple were also invited to speak on the radio, a radio run by the governor and celebrating its first anniversary.  * Please pray that God will continue opening doors in Colombian communities, and pray for wisdom in moving forward with this family development project. * Intercede for First Church in Maraca to be faithful in pursuing each lead following the sports ministry. * Ask God to literally open the doors of this school in North Brazil and the hearts of the students who will attend. *names changed

PHU THAI OF THAILAND (pooh tie) - When Jam* learned about who Jesus is and how powerful God is, she wanted to believe and learn more. Jam welcomed believers to her small one-room shack of a house to tell her Bible stories and teach her more. One day as the believers were singing worship songs on the front porch, Jam’s husband came home drunk and started threatening the believers. Thankfully he never put actions to his words. Even when Jam’s neighbors have mistreated her verbally and blamed her problems on her rejection of Buddhism, Jam has held strong to her belief that God will help her and that God is bigger than any problems she might have. Pray for Jam to be a good witness to her neighbors and for them to see that God is bigger than any problems. (*name changed) SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN PEOPLES - “Last month we asked for prayer as some churches sent a team to see if those churches would be a good fit to embrace the unengaged, unreached people groups (UUPGs) of East Africa. The team came and experienced some ailments, tented living, and motorbike taxis to get up a hill to reach one people group, as well as much more. One day they were able to witness to a group of young men, who then gave their lives to the Lord. When the team asked later who would follow up with these new believers, it was heart wrenching for us to tell them, ‘You have brought new ones to birth, but there is no one there to follow up and nourish them.’ We need workers to come and adopt these who have never heard, and who have no witness among them. In East Africa, there are more than 35 people groups that have no evangelical presence among them. Friday, October 24, 2014 To hear an mp3 recording of the PrayerLine, click here. http://media1.imbresources.org/files/216/21628/21628-116658.mp3 “Give us today our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11, HCSB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for those who are hungry. The Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund approved a feeding project for 88 of refugee students and their families in Cape Town, South Africa. When the vendor delivered the food, it was greater than any mind could picture! The anticipation was great, and the people didn’t know what they would be receiving. When family groups were given their food, they immediately clapped, cried, praised God, and jumped with joy. They saw that the God loved them so much that He provided, through His extended family, three meals a day for a month for each person in each family. They would no longer need to fight for the last two tablespoons of oatmeal, because each person would now have his or her own and it would be enough. Chuck* is a young man whose father abandoned the family several years ago. His mother was unable to make enough money to feed all nine of her children, so Chuck and his older brother, who were teenagers, had to quit school and find work. It is a day-to-day struggle for them to earn enough to meet all the needs of the family. In a similar way, the Jahanka people strive daily to please God through good works. Every day they do ritual prayers and other things, but they never know if they’ve done enough to be able to enter heaven if they should die. Thankfully, although Chuck, his brother, and his mother do not always know where their daily bread is coming from, they do know Jesus, the Bread of life, and are following Him.  * Please pray that this family’s physical needs will be met in a way that glorifies God, demonstrating to the Jahanka people that the One True God cares for His children.  * Give thanks for those who have contributed to the World Hunger Fund, making the South Africa feeding project possible. * Search your community for those who are hungry and allow God to serve them through you. *name changed

Please pray today for Prime Minister Kaj Leo Johannessen of Faroe Islands (North Atlantic Ocean between Iceland and Norway). SWAHILI-SPEAKING ARABS OF EAST AFRICA (swah-HEE-lee) - Looking up with big brown eyes, she responded, “I have read about baptism, and I want to get baptized, but my husband will not allow me. He wants me to wait.” Immediately the believer understood the tug on this sweet sister’s heart--a desire to honor God and a desire to submit to her husband. “I will wait, because I believe that one day my husband will believe and we can be baptized together.” Please ask the Father to draw family members to Himself together. Pray Psalm 22:27-28 on behalf of Swahili-speaking Arab families: “All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. For the kingship belongs to the Lord and He rules over the nations.” WOLOF OF SENEGAL AND THE GAMBIA (WUHL-uf) - “Chess” is a crossroads city in Senegal, but the thick walls of a spiritual stronghold can be found there: occult practice mixed with Islam in this 98 percent-Muslim community. Viewing it like Jericho, the local pastors have been working to ring the city with small village groups of believers, and now feel that it’s time to “blow the trumpet” and enter the city. The Lord told Joshua to march around Jericho for seven days, and on the seventh day to shout at the blast of the trumpet to bring down the walls. Will you ask for open doors for them to communicate with their friends, families, neighbors and all those they meet with throughout their daily lives?” http://southasianpeoples.imb.org/   HONG KONG AND MACAU, CHINA (ma-COW) - A 4-year-old boy, along with his parents and others from his church, helped to offer a Bible to Chinese tourists visiting Macau. He was very excited to be able to share the Word. Initially people were not very interested. He took a moment to pray and then went back to offering the Bible to people, but still no one took it. This little boy told his mother, “I prayed that people would take the Bible, but no one did. Why didn’t my prayer work?” His mother gently explained that some visitors would want one soon, so he should keep trying. And people did take the Bible--actually, his team was able to distribute 800 copies that morning! The Southern Cross Project has been able to connect Chinese visitors with God’s Word. Some tourists have also been able to hear a verbal witness, leading some to faith. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens.” (Psalm 96:4-5, NKJV) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for Hindus. The major Hindu festival Diwali, also known as the “Festival of Lights,” began on Tuesday, October 21, and ends on Saturday, October 25. Hinduism refers to a diverse set of religious, philosophical and cultural beliefs and practices. It is predominantly native to India, but can also be found in many of the other countries. Reincarnation and the existence of a supreme being in multiple forms are fundamental ideas within Hinduism. A basic desire for freedom from the evils and pitfalls of life is what guides much of their practices. Hinduism encompasses the beliefs of ethical duty (dharma), cycle of reincarnation (samsara), the cause and effect of actions (karma), and salvation by more than one path (moksha). Traditionally HIndus have a triune view of god: Brahma the creator god; Vishnu the preserver god; and Shiva, the destroyer god. Almost all of the over 300 million Hindu gods relate back to one of these three, but mostly to Shiva and Vishnu. The goal of a Hindu’s life is to build up enough good karma to attain freedom from reincarnation and join with god. Out of fear of persecution and actual brutal persecution, many believers in South Asia do not openly share their life-saving faith. Will you ask for open doors for them to communicate with their friends, families, neighbors? There are more than 500,000 South Asians in metropolitan Toronto who have not heard of salvation through Jesus. Recently there was a six-week evangelism training with an emphasis on “reaching the South Asian heart.” Now the participants are ready to tell their personal story and the story of Jesus.  * Please pray for South Asian Christians to speak boldly for Christ within their Canadian communities. * Intercede for those facing persecution to stand strong in their faith. * Pray that the true Light of the world will eclipse the lights of Diwali and shine throughout South Asia.

Pray for the recipients of this Gospel distribution project, asking that they will have receptive hearts and read God’s Word, and pray that seeker groups will form.” MANDINKA OF WEST AFRICA (man-DINK-uh) - “Just four days after the news that the dreaded Ebola virus had infected our country, I walked into our kitchen to find our house helper doubled over, with sweat beaded on her brow, complaining of severe stomach pains. I sent her home to rest and frantically began bleaching anything she might have touched. My head told me that it was most likely malaria or one of the common stomach ailments in our area, but my heart looked at my four beautiful children and cried out in panic. Living in a developing country, there is always something for a mother to worry about. I constantly find myself wondering, ‘Am I overreacting or underreacting to this situation?’ The Bible tells us to cast all our anxiety on God (1 Peter 5:7). We cannot be effective if we are living in a state of fear and panic. We also cannot be effective if we are too ill to minister! Finding just the right balance is tricky. Will you pray not just for our family, but for all of us living in West Africa right now? Please pray today for Prime Minister Taavi Roivas of Estonia (west of Russia). PEOPLE OF WHITE MOUNTAIN, EAST ASIA - Fall is in the air! Pumpkins and apples can be bought almost everywhere! More trainings will be going on this fall in several cities. Please lift these up, asking that they will take place. Some of the ones scheduled previously had to be canceled due to security concerns. But the Father is in control! Please pray for wisdom and boldness as the believers attend these events. THEOLOGICAL EDUCATORS OF THE CENTRAL SAHEL (WEST AFRICA) - The Benin Baptist Bible School (IBBB) is a small institution that is having a huge impact in Benin. Part of the school trains pastors in the French language, using the traditional Bible School method, while the other part trains pastors in a local language through the stories of the Bible, using oral methods to reach oral-preference peoples. The director, who also pastors a local Baptist church, insists that these professors use Bible stories in their preaching as he does, and he has trained his entire congregation to use Bible stories for evangelization, with great results. In August, nine students graduated from a decentralized branch of IBBB among the Maxi people. Their training had been conducted in the Maxi language. Another branch is training leaders from the Ci people, in the Ci language. Pray that God will provide more men who are eager and available to teach, as well as all the professors necessary for IBBB to decentralize further into many more people groups and languages to train pastors and leaders! The community health staff of Bangalore Hospital, India, has a rehabilitation program for alcoholism in villages. During the past two years, more than 250 people have attended 12-day sessions, followed by weekly support meetings. They have a 38 percent long-term success rate.  Children’s nutrition is always a problem in the slums. A nutrition program has been started with about 50 children in a slum of Kolkata, India. National and international workers are carrying out this program in hopes of improved health for the children as well as opportunities to demonstrate the love of Jesus,  Mustafa*, a close friend of a believer in Northern Africa, had grown tired and weary from the holy month of fasting. His days were filled with activities, and his nights were filled with eating and visiting family. The last night of Ramadan, he, his wife, his mother, his brother, and his 2-year-old daughter decided to visit a family member in a neighboring town. In the early hours of the morning, they set out on the dark road. As they drove, the others in the car fell fast asleep, and then Mustafa fell asleep. The car ran off the road and flipped multiple times. Mustafa suffered a head injury, but his wounds were not critical. His daughter and brother were fine, but his mother and wife were severely injured. Mustafa’s mother has come out of her coma, but now faces a long road of recovery. His wife is sadly still in a coma. * Please pray for physical healing for Mustafa’s wife, a healing that would come in such a way that there is no doubt that it is the work of the Great Physician and lead to spiritual healing for the entire family. * Intercede for the children’s nutrition program in Kolkata. * Pray for the transition in leadership as a new director/CEO assumes responsibility for Bangalore Hospital. *names changed
