The Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund approved a feeding project for 88 of refugee students and their families in Cape Town, South Africa. When the vendor delivered the food, it was greater than any mind could picture! The anticipation was great, and the people didn’t know what they would be receiving. When family groups were given their food, they immediately clapped, cried, praised God, and jumped with joy. They saw that the God loved them so much that He provided, through His extended family, three meals a day for a month for each person in each family. They would no longer need to fight for the last two tablespoons of oatmeal, because each person would now have his or her own and it would be enough. Chuck* is a young man whose father abandoned the family several years ago. His mother was unable to make enough money to feed all nine of her children, so Chuck and his older brother, who were teenagers, had to quit school and find work. It is a day-to-day struggle for them to earn enough to meet all the needs of the family. In a similar way, the Jahanka people strive daily to please God through good works. Every day they do ritual prayers and other things, but they never know if they’ve done enough to be able to enter heaven if they should die. Thankfully, although Chuck, his brother, and his mother do not always know where their daily bread is coming from, they do know Jesus, the Bread of life, and are following Him. * Please pray that this family’s physical needs will be met in a way that glorifies God, demonstrating to the Jahanka people that the One True God cares for His children. * Give thanks for those who have contributed to the World Hunger Fund, making the South Africa feeding project possible. * Search your community for those who are hungry and allow God to serve them through you. *name changed |
