“Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let those who love Your salvation continually say, 'The Lord is great!' I am afflicted and needy; the Lord thinks of me. You are my helper and my deliverer; my God, do not delay.” (Psalm 40:16-17, HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for continued growth as newly redeemed believers are baptized.

Two missionary families with young children have begun work among the Dinka of South Sudan. Recently 75 Dinka were baptized. As you know from news reports, the country of South Sudan is in great turmoil. These new believers and young families need encouragement as they persevere through times of confusion and distress.

Life Eternal Asian Fellowship in Canada is praising the Lord for their first baptism. Brother Don* is now growing in faith and desires that his testimony will be used by God. Also, four Sikh men heard the words of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount, and enjoyed music performed by four brothers in Christ who met with them at the Sikh temple in a Toronto suburb.

Since 2010, intercessors have been praying for a church-planting project that involves raising pigs and teaching rural villagers how to raise them effectively. While teaching these agricultural techniques, the national church planter has been able to share the Gospel, lead people to the Lord, and baptize them. Praise God that today there is a church and more than 50 baptized believers.

* Please pray and keep on praying for these believers in the Last Frontier as they share with neighboring villages and in the district south of them, asking for a multiplication of believers and house churches in 2014.

* Ask the Holy Spirit to draw these four Sikh men to salvation, revealing Jesus as the true Teacher who alone brings us to God.

* Pray for missionaries and Dinka believers to have a deep awareness that the Lord is thinking of them, helping, and delivering them.

“It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear.” (Isaiah 65:24)

WORLD LEADERS - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Emanuel Mori of Federated States of Micronesia (between Indonesia and Hawaii).

NORTHERN YEMENI ARABS OF YEMEN (YEH-muh-nee) - There are not many Northern Yemeni believers and due to heavy persecution, they live mostly in secret, so raising their young children to follow Jesus is particularly difficult. One brother tells of how his son tried to correct his teacher when she told the Muslim version of the story of Abraham. This innocent interjection in class nearly brought his family to ruinous persecution. Since that incident, this brother has decided not to tell his children about his faith until they are old enough to handle the truth with more discretion. Can you imagine having to choose between raising your children from a young age to follow Jesus or being violently persecuted? Pray for believers in Yemen to have wisdom about how raise their children.

PEOPLE OF FOUR CITIES BETWEEN TWO RIVERS, CHINA - There’s a butcher who doesn’t look like what you might imagine a butcher to look like. If you saw her on the street, you would never guess that she chops up pork for a living. She can be found behind the counter at the market with her makeup on and hair done and dressed in a flashy outfit, high heels, and a bloodied apron! She likes to talk as she’s smiling and hacking away with a large cleaver at a customer’s order. One day she asked a believer, with motions, about the sign of the cross (a Catholic ritual). “I see it in Western movies sometimes,” she said. This conversation opened a door to share the Gospel, until another customer came up. Being pressed for time, the believer left her with a tract. “Oh, is this about Christianity?” she asked. “My close friend is a Christian. I don’t really know about it. I know they like to sing.” The believer was upset in her spirit: How can a person have a close friend who claims to be a Christian and not know what it’s all about? Pray for the salvation of this beautiful woman so that she will know the beauty of Christ. Pray for the growth and boldness of her friend and of believers everywhere.

“(God our Savior) desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:4)

Please pray today for President Enrique Pena Nieto of Mexico (southern North America).

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM (HOE-chee-men) - “Eight of us sat in a circle on the floor of the 15- by 15-foot room that is home to Duc* and Thuy* and their 2-year-old daughter. Most all new believers, they eagerly searched in their Bibles to find the next Scripture reference we would study, the first ones finding it calling out the page number to those still looking. It’s impossible not to be moved by the contagious faith and passion for God of these young factory workers.” Praise God for a handful of young factory workers who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ! They are growing in discipleship and faithfully studying the Scriptures. They have a vision for reaching their co-workers and branching out to workers of other factories as well. Pray that each of these workers will see fruit in new believers as they share. Pray that each will be able to disciple those they lead to Christ and start a new church beyond their own. Pray for God’s kingdom to multiply among this population and, in turn, throughout all of this city and country. (*pseudonyms)

LUGBARA OF UGANDA (loog-BAR-ah) - Three married couples are continuing to meet monthly to encourage each other in their own marriage and parenting relationships. There are many married couples all around them who have troubled relationships. Many spouses carry bitterness and do not have the opportunity or skills to begin sharing their hurt to find reconciliation. The default is to use cultural rituals in front of the extended family, which is expensive, shameful and sometimes involves witchcraft. God’s plan for marital oneness and resolving conflicts seems to be unknown, and some couples have lost hope. God has provided marriage as a wonderful picture of His own love for us and a live demonstration of what forgiveness and restoration is all about. Pray that God will lead this group to know who to engage in these marriage encouragement opportunities. Should it be informal or formal? How many couples are manageable? They could easily become overwhelmed and neglect their own marriages and families, so this needs a lot of wisdom. Several couples are requesting help. Pray for wisdom and direction so that this group can be used by God to bring His healing and reconciliation.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for those suffering conditions of poverty.

Many people in Zimbabwe are facing desperate times due to the continued economic problems in the country. Although Zimbabwe is now using U.S. dollars as their currency to stabilize the economy, prices continue to rise frequently and are higher for just about everything than they are in the United States. Yet most people who are employed earn less than $200 a month. Employment still runs above 80 percent. It was recently reported that 2.2 million people (approximately one-fifth of the population of Zimbabwe) have insufficient food to eat on a daily basis. Thankfully, this year’s rainy season seems to be the best in years.

Most Senufo Supyire women of Mali work steadily from before sunup until 10 o’clock at night, pounding food with a heavy pestle, hauling large quantities of water on their head, bending over a basin and washboard to clean clothes, and cooking over an open fire in stifling heat. They also work alongside the men and their children in the fields, plowing, planting, weeding, harvesting and processing crops by hand, since there are few machines available and fewer people who can afford them. Aside from the physical burdens, there’s the mental burden of figuring out how to take care of a large family with many sicknesses and only enough food and money to get by. Spiritually they may be burdened, thinking that if they just do enough good, obey all the rules, or avoid offending the spirits and ancestors, they may be allowed into paradise. Like all people, they are heavy-laden with sin and the fact that they can do nothing about it.

* Please pray that the Senufo Supyire will recognize that Christ took their sin upon Himself and that He will give them rest.

* Intercede for the people of Zimbabwe that they will turn to Jesus in their desperate need.

* Lay your own burdens upon the Lord, asking Him to reveal His provision and rest.

“I pray that your participation in the faith may become effective through knowing every good thing that is in us for the glory of Christ.” (Philemon 1:6)

Please pray today for President Daniel Zaidini of Mayotte (island off the coast of southern Africa, between Mozambique and Madagascar).

BAI AND NAXI OF CHINA (BYE and NAH-shee) - Singing praises is a natural part of the Christian experience (Psalm 96:1–3), even for Bai believers. But up until last month, they had never had a Bai song to sing. Bai brothers and sisters just finished writing the first worship songs in their heart language. Praise the Lord! Pray for this to be just the beginning of what will become a whole collection of songs that will allow the people to sing praises to the Father in their heart language and spread His fame among the nations!

EUROPEAN PEOPLES - IMB personnel are working alongside national believers and church planters throughout the countries of the Black Sea Orthodox Cluster to expand the body of Christ through new church starts. Many of these new groups are being led by church planters equipped through the church-planting program at Kiev Theological Seminary in Ukraine. Intercede for the young men and their families who are living and working by faith to be instruments the Lord uses to impact lostness in these countries. Ask the Lord to prepare the hearts of many who are not yet followers of Jesus in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine to receive the Good News of Christ with joy.

“First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone.” (1 Timothy 2:1)

Please pray today for Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius (island in western Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar.

QUILOMBOLAS OF BRAZIL (key-lohm-BALL-uhs) - Pray for a Brazilian pastor and his wife as they lead a team from two churches. During a recent ministry visit to the communities of St. Q and MJ, community leaders gave permission to take the Gospel a step further through home Bible studies. Pray for the team to be faithful to go every two weeks to lead these home Bible studies, and ask that the Quilombola people will clearly understand God’s Word, put their faith in Christ alone, and become His disciples. Also ask God to strengthen the two other local teams to be faithful to take the Gospel to the BB and SB communities. Pray for volunteer teams from the United States who are making preparations to arrive in the Quilombola communities in a couple of months.
capschulz@hotmail.com

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - In parts of Angola, there are a surprising number of children who are accused of being witches and then are beaten, abused or abandoned. The officials in one northern Angolan town identified 432 street children who had been abandoned or abused after being called witches. The notion of child witches is not new. It is a common belief in Angola’s dominant Bantu culture that witches can communicate with the world of the dead and usurp or “eat” the life force of others, bringing their victims misfortune, illness and death. Adult witches are said to bewitch children by giving them food, then forcing them to reciprocate by sacrificing a family member. Witchcraft starts with a heart of rebellion and works by focusing on a distracter, a lie, which is some technique purported to release power. It is important to have “faith,” to trust in the technique and not God. Believing in lies is an “acceptable sacrifice” to Satan, the father of lies, who honors his children with real power. The irony is that due to the inherent deceptive basis of witchcraft, the practitioners of it often think they are serving God, while accessing a power from below--not from above. Please pray that these children will be delivered from witchcraft and that someone will share the truth of God’s Word with them. John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for a Central Asian people group.

There are currently no known believers among the 250,000 Qizilbash-Afshari (pronounced KIH-zil-bahsh ahf-shah-REE). Though they can be found living throughout Afghanistan, most are concentrated in the urban centers of Kabul, Herat, Kandahar and Mazar. These people are craftsmen and tradesmen who have assumed significant political influence since the founding of Afghanistan as a nation. They hold strictly to Shia Islam (the minority sect in Afghanistan).

Their culture is one of grand hospitality. Guests are highly honored and cared for. It is not unusual for a Qizilbash-Afshari family to prepare their last chicken for the enjoyment of a guest. Typically upon arrival at their home, a visitor will be offered tea while acquaintance is made or friendship deepened, as their culture places their focus on people over tasks or events.

The Afghan people remain high on the World Watch List of persecution due to the extreme consequences of choosing to follow Jesus. The country of Afghanistan has been at war for as long as those living can recall. The poverty the people live in is extreme, with one of the highest infant-mortality rates worldwide and a life-expectancy average of 50 years of age. The needs of the people are countless and ever increasing, yet their need of the truth of Christ outweighs all other needs combined.

Currently the Scriptures are available in their mother tongue, Dari, as are several resources, both written and oral, including films.

* Please pray that the church--individuals, families and whole congregations--will be moved to pray strategically and intentionally over the Qizilbash-Afshari without ceasing, resulting in the destruction of strongholds and access to hearts trapped in the greatest darkness.

* Pray that their sense of hospitality will become a stable bridge for communicating the Gospel.

* Ask God to open your heart and home to grand hospitality that allow you to reach others for Jesus.

“Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.” (Isaiah 59:1)

Please pray today for Prime Minister Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf of Mauritania (northern Africa, between Senegal and western Sahara).

YEMEN - Pierre Korkie was taken hostage by Al Qaeda in Yemen. Al Qaeda is threatening to kill him if they do not receive a huge ransom. Several deadlines have come and gone. He is still alive but is in very poor health. Pray that God will sustain him and his family and that He will provide a way to free Pierre.

LAST FRONTIER - Workers are always asking for guidance and creativity in reaching out in a new way or a new area in order to meet people and share Truth. Some workers have started going to a local immigration office each week to share Truth with a specific group of people they are seeking to work with. Pray that they will find many who will respond to their offer and want to know more. Pray that they will also find those within this specific people group who are already believers and who can partner with them and encourage them in this work.

SOUTH ASIANS OF CANADA - “Hey, Manny*, let me tell you about the armor of God!” Reed* couldn’t wait to tell his best friend what he had just learned. Manny follows Jesus and is glad that Reed also is growing in his new faith. In October, you were asked to pray for Reed, a new believer whose Muslim parents had forbidden him to be baptized. He has suffered misunderstanding from his family and even unnecessary mental health treatments because of his faith in Jesus. But Reed continues to hunger for the words of Jesus, the words of eternal life! Your IMB representative who is discipling Manny and Reed covets your intercession for continued wisdom as he mentors them. Also pray for God’s intervention in the lives of Reed’s parents; may they have grace to repent and believe the Good News. And pray that if it is God’s will, Reed will be able to find work and leave his parents’ house and hindering influence. (*pseudonyms)
