| Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST February 25, 2014 “First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone.” (1 Timothy 2:1) WORLD LEADERS - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius (island in western Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. QUILOMBOLAS OF BRAZIL (key-lohm-BALL-uhs) - Pray for a Brazilian pastor and his wife as they lead a team from two churches. During a recent ministry visit to the communities of St. Q and MJ, community leaders gave permission to take the Gospel a step further through home Bible studies. Pray for the team to be faithful to go every two weeks to lead these home Bible studies, and ask that the Quilombola people will clearly understand God’s Word, put their faith in Christ alone, and become His disciples. Also ask God to strengthen the two other local teams to be faithful to take the Gospel to the BB and SB communities. Pray for volunteer teams from the United States who are making preparations to arrive in the Quilombola communities in a couple of months. SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - In parts of Angola, there are a surprising number of children who are accused of being witches and then are beaten, abused or abandoned. The officials in one northern Angolan town identified 432 street children who had been abandoned or abused after being called witches. The notion of child witches is not new. It is a common belief in Angola’s dominant Bantu culture that witches can communicate with the world of the dead and usurp or “eat” the life force of others, bringing their victims misfortune, illness and death. Adult witches are said to bewitch children by giving them food, then forcing them to reciprocate by sacrificing a family member. Witchcraft starts with a heart of rebellion and works by focusing on a distracter, a lie, which is some technique purported to release power. It is important to have “faith,” to trust in the technique and not God. Believing in lies is an “acceptable sacrifice” to Satan, the father of lies, who honors his children with real power. The irony is that due to the inherent deceptive basis of witchcraft, the practitioners of it often think they are serving God, while accessing a power from below--not from above. Please pray that these children will be delivered from witchcraft and that someone will share the truth of God’s Word with them. John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” For additional prayer requests, click here: Today’s Prayer (If you have difficulty with this link, please go to www.imb.org and click on the “Pray” tab, and then click on the “Today’s Prayer” link in the left-hand column.) |
