“Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31b, HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, interceding with you for nations at war.

The first few days of 2014 were filled with more than 10,000 refugees fleeing war in South Sudan, and coming into Kenya and Uganda. Many of these refugees are from unreached people groups that have never heard the Word of the Lord. There are believers living near and in the cities of refuge.

One IMB family had made their home in Juba, South Sudan, but the violence and uncertainly necessitated relocation. Pray especially that their children will not be afraid and that they will be able to continue in their schoolwork and establish routines. Petition our Father to keep them healthy and give them strength as they wait upon Him.

All Malians have been affected by the coup of March 2011--some more than others--but because of all the uncertainty, people have begun to examine their faith and search for truth. They have begun to ask questions about sin and forgiveness.

Political freedom came suddenly to the nation of South Africa in 1994, but economic change is coming much more slowly. The past two years were marked by overwhelming discontent among workers from many sectors of the economy. There were many illegal strikes, which often included intimidation and violence. Presently there is an air of uncertainty, following the death of the nation’s beloved Nelson Mandela. Elections for the National Assembly will occur between April and June of this year.

* Please pray for South Africans and her leaders to work together for the good of all citizens.

* Pray that God will use believers in Mali to share their faith through acts of love and forgiveness.

* Intercede for believers who live in and near the cities of refuge surrounding South Sudan, asking that God will fill them with His love and wisdom as He turns what seems like a disaster into the advancement of His kingdom.
