House churches are continuing to multiply throughout Kabylia, Algeria. The authorities have declared these meetings to be illegal. If a group is caught, they risk financial penalties and loss of the property. The authorities have given permission for these groups to build church buildings, but there are little or no funds for property or construction. Christians in Sri Lanka are also facing persecution, and in many cases are being denied basic things like education for their children or even funeral services (such as the preparation of the body). There has also been opposition to house churches, so laws are being passed to restrict worship services outside of legally registered churches. In a regional center city outside of Kharkov, Ukraine, members of a small Baptist church continue to encounter great opposition as they seek to reach out to the community around them. At times, the pastor has been physically threatened for simply inviting residents to their services. For almost a year, their documents for the registration of their church (as well as for several other churches in the area) have sat on the desk of authorities, unsigned. Four local partners have seen God move powerfully in their Southeast Asian ministries. All of them have been threatened because of their boldness to share the Gospel. Some of them have spent time in jail, some have taken beatings. It is humbling to see their passion and dedication to seeing the unreached people groups around them come to know the Lord. * Please pray for these partners and their families as they sacrifice in order to spread the Good News. * Join Team Kharkov in praying for this small Baptist church as they persevere despite discouragement. * Pray that God will provide a way for Kabyle and Sri Lankan groups to have church buildings where they can worship without fear. |
