“For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.” (Matthew 5:18, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for those who do not fully follow Jesus.

He is the local leader of Islam who teaches children religious lessons, sells worried fathers amulets with promises of healing, and convinces mothers to keep their little ones away from the Christians. Workers in Bangladesh had heard of his work, but in March, they had opportunity to meet Dabir*. His home is small and temporary, just like those of his neighbors who live beside him in the same slum. His wife is lovely, and he is obviously proud of his daughter and son.

In Sri Lanka a journeyman “prayed for God to bring someone to share the Gospel with. Within minutes, a man speaking English stopped to ask the usual barrage of questions, ‘Are you lost? Where are you going? Why are you here?’ I find he isn’t trying to sell me something or ask for money. He actually learned English working at a tourist hotel, and as we began talking, he shares that although he was born a Buddhist, he was baptized 25 years ago, and attends church about once a month. At first I was excited to find another believer, but as I asked him more about Jesus, he said that He is wonderful and now in heaven. When asked about whether he would go to heaven or not he said, ‘Maybe if my karma is good, I might have a chance in my next life. Jesus must have had great karma in His past life to have such great spiritual insight.’”

* Please pray for Sunil* and other Buddhists who are intrigued by Jesus to understand the full Gospel that leads to salvation.

* Join in praying for Dabir that his heart will soften toward Jesus Christ and that salvation will come to him and his household.

* Lift up those within your own congregation who have heard the Gospel but do not yet understand its power.

“Therefore I tell you, all the things you pray and ask for--believe that you have received them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:24)

WORLD LEADERS - Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Denzil Douglas of Saint Kitts and Nevis (eastern Caribbean Sea).

LOZI OF ZAMBIA AND NAMIBIA (LOH-zee) - Please pray for Gevin*, a young Lozi man who was once passionate for Jesus. He became a pastor and was mentored for more than two years by a missionary. But now Gevin is angry, prideful and deceived. He believes himself to be a prophet who can heal and perform miracles. He has taken half the church with him and is leading them down a road that does not honor Jesus Christ as Lord. Please pray that Gevin will return to the Lord and stop leading people away from Jesus! Pray for the remnant of believers who are left at the church to grow stronger from this, unified under Jesus Christ alone. (*pseudonym)

M’ZAB OF THE SAHARA DESERT AND BEYOND (m-zab) - Pray that the M’zab will take refuge in Him, for “the Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress” (Nahum 1:7a, HCSB). These days are days of heavy distress for the M’zab, as they are being physically and politically threatened by a larger people group surrounding them. For centuries the M’zab have been persecuted by fellow Muslims who disagree with their way of thought and Islamic practices. Years ago, they found refuge in the Sahara Desert as they sought to be freed from their persecutors in the northern part of Algeria. However today, deep in the Sahara Desert, they are being persecuted once again. In recent months, a handful of them have been killed and numbers of them injured during the tribal clashes taking place in their oasis towns. With business as their livelihood, many of them are coming to work and finding their business completely burned down to the ground, with nothing remaining. Please pray that during this time, the M’zab will seek out the Truth. Ask that they will find the Lord, the Creator of their souls and their desert land. Pray that the Lord God will become their stronghold in their days of distress.

“At daybreak, LORD, You hear my voice; at daybreak I plead my case to You and watch expectantly.” (Psalm 5:3)

WORLD LEADERS - Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Governor Mark Capes of Saint Helena (South Atlantic Ocean, midway between South America and Africa).

BANGALORE HOSPITAL, KARNATAKA STATE, INDIA (BANG-ah-lohr) - “Thank you for praying for the graduation ceremonies at Bangalore Baptist Hospital. Give thanks to God that a total of 94 graduates received their certificates: 46 in nursing, 21 in allied health disciplines, and also 27 doctors who had completed residency training in specialties. These young people are now working either in our hospital or in other places across India. Continue to pray for them as they begin their professional careers, and also intercede for their spiritual needs.”

SOUTH TOKYO, JAPAN (TOH-kyoh) - How do you pray for a whole country when you live in one city? The South Tokyo Team has the answer. If you visit Tokyo and go to the Imperial Palace area near the Tokyo train station, you can find small concrete blocks, located along a five-kilometer walk, representing each prefecture of Japan with its special flower. A prayerwalk guide has been written that describes the history of that area and what kind of Christian presence does or does not exist there, and how to pray specifically for the strongholds. Missionary Myoung-Seok Bae invited some women from her Japanese church to do this prayerwalk along with some language learners. The prayerwalk guide was only available in English, but with other missionaries who could pray in Japanese, these Japanese believers heard how to pray for their own country! One of the women asked if she could “have the honor” of translating the prayerwalk guide into Japanese! And she, along with a few friends, has finished that project of love. Along with her pastor and his wife, these Japanese believers took to the street around the Imperial Palace in March to pray for their country in Japanese. Praise the Lord for these believers who want to see God work in Japan! Thank Him for South Tokyo Team member Myoung-Seok’s introducing these women to the experience of prayerwalking. Pray that more church members will feel the nudging of the Holy Spirit to pray in this manner in many places around the country!

“And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Acts 2:21, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for these who need salvation.

It was a hot, sunny day when a family of believers met Anthony* at his new home in the Sahara Desert. He had left a war-torn land to return with his family to his mother’s home. His entire family heard stories of Jesus that day and were interested in hearing more. Each time that family or another local believer visited Anthony’s house, everyone present listened to what was being said. Not long afterwards though, Anthony returned with his family to the war-torn land of the Sahara.

In a sunny city in North Africa, a young believing woman meets with a newfound friend to learn the language and culture. As she learns these important lessons for living and working among North Africans, she also shares the grace and truth that she has received from Jesus. Pray for this new friend, Dana.* Daniel* and Ryan* have a friend in the northern part of Paris who is a North African believer. He works at a small cafe, where he met these men who are interested in spiritual things. Now, once a week, they go and chat with him while he works and they listen to stories from the Bible.

In outdoor places like parks, markets and beaches, and even in a McDonalds, the story of Jesus continues to take center stage. In a major European city, believers shared life and tea with some women, and the story of Jesus was shared in a language that these women understood well. They heard fully why the Son died for the sins of the world. Another time, a family shared bits of His story and also talked about what Jesus has been doing in their lives.

* Please pray that families will come to know Jesus and take the message to others in their community.

* Pray that Dana, Daniel, and Ryan will see Jesus for who He is and follow Him.

* Intercede for Anthony and his family that they will have regular contact with believers in their new home.

“Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Give heed to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I will pray.” (Psalm 5:1-2)

WORLD LEADERS - Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Paul Kagame of Rwanda (central Africa, between Uganda and Tanzania).

COASTAL SWAHILI PEOPLES OF EAST AFRICA (swah-HEE-lee) - “Nearly a year ago, we rejoiced when an Islamic teacher, Isaac*, decided to follow Jesus and burned all of his teaching materials. We asked you to pray for him. News of his decision must have spread rapidly along the coast, because it wasn’t long before chief leaders from the city arrived to try to persuade him to change his mind. Their initial efforts were unsuccessful, so they whisked him away instead. We heard rumors that houses, gifts, and educational opportunities had been offered in exchange for renouncing Jesus. We had no contact with him for more than eight months and continued to pray, all the while growing more and more concerned. But we recently heard amazing news! Isaac is alive and well and is living in the city. But rather than returning to Islam, he is now holding Bible studies and is even planting a church! He reports that since reading the Word for himself, he is certain that it is the truth and he will not turn back. Pray for Isaac, asking that his faith will be grounded, that he will stand firm, that his church will grow in number, and that his testimony of faith will penetrate many hearts.” “. . . be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless . . . But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. . . .” (2 Peter 3:17b-18b, NIV). (*pseudonym)

UDMURTS OF RUSSIA (ood-MERTS) - “Their warm hospitality and love for their culture was evident when we first crossed paths with two elderly Udmurts, Vladimir* and Ludmilla*. Since then, we’ve shared many afternoons with them, drinking tea and eating potato pies. In the past, they listened politely to the Gospel but had little interest in spiritual things. But after several years of sharing and praying, things are changing. They’ve recently been given a Bible in Udmurt, their heart language, and they are reading it! Ludmilla was very interested in talking about the stories she had been reading, and she said that reading the Bible can change your heart. Pray for the Word to penetrate their hearts, giving them new life through Jesus Christ.” (*pseudonyms)

“'What is your name?' Jesus asked him. 'Legion,' he said—because many demons had entered him.” (Luke 8:30, HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for ministry among the Deaf.

“Can you do anything to make the bad go away?” On a day trip with Deaf friends, Phun* took workers to a Hindu temple. He explained that some statues were Chinese, Hindu or Buddhist. In one area was a mat with an open-ended cylinder container, with sticks in it. Phun knelt on the mat, bowed before the statues, picked up the cylinder, and shook it until a stick came out. The stick had #35 on it. Phun walked over to an area with drawers. He found Drawer #35 and drew out a small piece of paper. He looked sad and said, “The paper told me that I drink and smoke too much; therefore, I’m bad. I can do nothing to take the bad away.” One worker told the story of Jesus known as I Am the Way and His interaction with the demon-possessed man. Phun was surprised to hear about one absolute Way to heaven and the power of Jesus.

A Deaf leader in “M City” was partnering with workers and had been in training to take over the teaching. Sadly, he has fallen into sin and is completely unrepentant. His persistence in sin has resulted in a confrontation between this leader and another member of the body, causing him to leave the group in a fury. As if this was not heartbreaking enough, he has maliciously attacked the members of the group and other partners with rumors and lies, threatening to involve the police. He has dissuaded seekers from attending the meetings and even coerced another beloved brother to leave the body.

* Please pray for the restoration of these brothers and for God to heal the hurts that this man has caused.

* Pray that Phun will remember the stories and will develop a long-lasting friendship with these believers who point Him to Jesus.

* Intercede for the Deaf in your community that they will receive the Word of Jesus.

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19a)

WORLD LEADERS - Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin of Russia (northern Asia).

CHINESE PEOPLE OF THE AMERICAS - A number of the Chinese Diaspora in Peru struggle to live and work in an environment where Spanish is spoken by the majority of the people around them, since many members of this people group are not fluent in Spanish. If they could speak English, even that would help them, but very few have much English-speaking ability either. If Spanish or English language classes were available to them, such classes would allow them to become more successfully integrated and productive in the culture in which they now live. Also, there are Chinese children who could benefit from tutoring in their Spanish-language classes in light of their parents’ difficulty in helping them because of the language barrier. Several Chinese have expressed an interest in such classes. The Americas Chinese Diaspora Team has been praying and seeking direction from the Lord in how to meet these needs. Please join them in praying for God’s continued vision, leadership, and provision of qualified, available and willing Peruvian national teachers and possibly volunteers from the United States or elsewhere who can help teach Spanish or English classes. Please pray with this team that God will orchestrate the unfolding of His plan regarding this project.

DEAF PEOPLES - “God leads us to the right people and even to those who are teaching us their heart language of signing. I learned that the husband of Abigail*, my language helper, has two other siblings who are Deaf and live nearby. Also, her best friend’s husband has a Deaf older brother. These represent significant relationships within the larger Deaf community. Please pray that this openness in Abigail will bear fruit in other lives that will be impacted for God as Abigail learns God’s stories and shares them within her circles!” (*pseudonym)

WORLD LEADERS - Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Victor-Viorel Ponta of Romania (southeastern Europe, between Ukraine and Bulgaria).

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM (HOE-chee-men) - Chau* is a young believer who has a passion to see God’s kingdom multiply many times over in the city and beyond. Every day Chau takes time to share the Gospel with the people around her. Each week she moves among six different areas to meet with new believers to disciple them. Please pray that God will raise up more laborers to follow her example in abundantly sharing the Gospel with every person in this city. Pray that as Chau disciples others, they, too, will accept God’s call to invest in the lives of a next generation of believers. Pray that in each of the six locations where Chau works, a new, multiplying church will be started. Ask God to raise up a multitude of servants for Himself in this city so that all 10 million people may believe. (*pseudonym)

NIGERIA - This year is a special year for all Nigerian Baptists: They are celebrating 100 years as a convention! Despite fuel scarcity, political tension and insurgence activity, there will probably be more than 10,000 Baptists in attendance at their annual meeting. IMB President Tom Elliff, as well as leaders from the Sub-Saharan Africa affinity group, will also be in attendance. Please pray for a peaceful convention where God, rather than men, will be glorified and lifted up. Pray for travel mercies for all who will attend.
