“I have made you a light for the Gentiles to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 13:34b, HCSB)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2, NKJV).  Please pray today for President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana (western Africa, between Cote d’Ivoire and Togo).

MALTESE OF MALTA (MAHL-teez) - Although Malta is tiny--the “big island” is only nine miles wide by 17 miles long--the Maltese people are not used to traveling too far from their local village. One can find small shops for fish, vegetables, meat, clothing, stationery, and so forth in every village and a large Roman Catholic church in the center. Public transportation is not very reliable, and because of the island’s small size, the main roads are jam packed with cars and rush hours can mean just inching along for miles. Local believers and IMB personnel have a vision of a “growing group of disciples” in all of the 68 Local Council areas of Malta and Gozo. (The island of Gozo is accessible by ferry and is 5 miles wide by 9 miles long.) Rejoice and give thanks to God that although progress is slow, it is happening! Particularly lift up Knisja Evangelika Battista (Evangelical Baptist Church) and their meetings in Mosta, Floriana and Bormla, as well as their building plans in Qormi. Also pray that the various evangelical fellowships will be unified in this desire to see Malta saturated with the Gospel!

SONGHAI OF WEST AFRICA (SONG-high) - “After a six-month hiatus due to the farming season, our Songhai Team will begin the Niamey Leadership Training School (NLTS) again in November. This ‘school’ is the only oral theological school of its kind (that we know of) in West Africa and offers courses ranging from Survey of the Old and New Testaments to Personal Evangelism to teaching through specific books of the Bible, such as Acts and Romans. Over the course of three years, mature Songhai believers from villages all over Niger will sit under a total of 12 lessons for a week at a time. They will use these lessons to increase their knowledge of Scripture and God, and to lead the churches or outreach groups in their villages to have a deeper relationship with Christ as well. What began as a distant dream of our Songhai Team in 2007 has become a reality over the past two years. We’ve seen more than 30 men sit through these teachings. This month we will teach on the Holy Spirit; it’s our eighth course of NLTS. Please pray for the men who will attend these sessions. Pray for growth in their relationship with Christ, their knowledge of Scripture, and their love for God. Ask that they will share all that they learn during NLTS with other believers in their villages. Pray that Christ’s name will go forth throughout all the Songhai lands as these men learn and grow as true followers of Jesus.”
