“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:13-14, ESV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for unengaged people groups of Sub-Saharan Africa.

While they may live beside other people groups that have access to the Gospel of Christ and peace with God, the Tongwe are closed to hearing the truth that will set them free. Prayer is the only way to break through the barriers.

The Balanta Mane of Guinea-Bissau have no one teach them about the ultimate sacrifice, Jesus. For this reason, they continue to perform animal sacrifices in hopes of finding peace. They claim to be animist, Muslim and Catholic, but the truth is, the Balanta Mane have become synchronistic cultural Catholics and Muslims. They don’t know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and there is no one sharing the Gospel or having any success among them. Although the king is a very sweet, friendly man, his people are known, in general, by local Guinea-Bissau evangelical Christians as being ‘too hard’ to reach with the Gospel.

Approximately 155,000 people from the Moru people group living in South Sudan exist in a “desert” of sound Christian teaching. Although at one time Christianity had an influence, it seems that now fear is plentiful. There are many forces of darkness, such as sorcery, fortunetelling and witch doctors. Rainmakers are particularly important and highly respected. It is difficult to disobey a rainmaker, because if a bad circumstance befalls a person, the Moru believe that it can only be treated by the rainmaker.

* Please pray Deuteronomy 32:2a for the Moru: “Let my teaching drop as the rain, My speech distill as the dew” until they believe in the Living Water.

* Pray that the King of kings will be allowed to have His rightful throne in the hearts of the Balanta Mane people.

* Ask God to send believers into the lives of the Tongwe people who can introduce them to the God of heaven and earth.
