“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for refugees living in Europe.

Only three years ago, Shawiya Berbers sought to escape pursuers in their home country in North Africa. Many fled to Europe and were met with the Word of God. Some believed. These Shawiya Berber believers now seek to remain faithful to the name of Jesus.

Tired, hungry and weak, three friends reached the hot desert plains. They dared not rest for long, fearful of being caught by enemy pursuers or government authorities. Traveling for days through three Middle Eastern countries and eating what they could get their hands on, Jadi* and his two friends made their way to a private dock to be packed with others into a small boat bound for Europe. They hoped it wouldn’t capsize from the weight and authorities wouldn’t order them back to their war-torn country. All didn’t end as well as anticipated; five years later, Jadi is still searching for work. But when asked about that journey, he responded, “When you’re desperate, you’ll do anything.”

European shores are being flooded with hundreds of thousands of people fleeing their homelands. Many are met with mixed feelings, as some Europeans fear a potential increase in crime and a downturn in the economy, while others have caring hearts but don’t know how to help.

Please pray that adequate aid can be provided for immigrants pouring into Europe and that European believers will open their arms to care for them.

Intercede for those like Jadi and his friends that they will not only find work but also the comfort of the Savior.

Ask God to bless Shawiya Berber believers in Europe that they will be a shining testimony of the Father as they live out their faith through good works towards other immigrants and refugees.
