Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?” (1 Corinthians 7:16, NASB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for marriages. Local believers in Tajikistan have a hard time developing strong relationships with each other, both in marriages and in friendships. Tajiks are distinctly family oriented and find it difficult to trust people outside of their families. Marriages often struggle, because believers have no model of a godly marriage and may have many strongholds from their past to overcome. Workers believe that relationships within the local church and in families must be strong for the Gospel to continue to spread. He loved her; he married her. They are making their life together. He is a believer; she is not. Does she even know about the most important decision of his life, a life that now belongs to Jesus? Sadly, no. This Moroccan Arab couple are surrounded and cramped by the ever-scrutinizing extended family with varying degrees of devoutness to the prophet (from minimal to argumentative for the faith). Bartimeus* and Mary* need their own place apart so they are looking for an affordable apartment with affordable transportation. They need the space, in part, to be able to have spiritual times together--in the Word, in God’s presence, in a shared “new life” together. It is Bartimeus’ prayer that Mary will accept salvation before they have children. It is the prayer of those discipling these two that they will eventually host small groups for Bible study in their home. * Please pray that Bartimeus will be a model believing husband to her and that she will desire the Bridegroom who makes her own husband so different from other local men. * Intercede for the opening of hearts, the breaking of barriers, strong discipleship, and great leading of the Holy Spirit so that healing can come and God’s Word can continue to go forth and bear fruit in families of Tajikistan. * Pray for those marriages within your congregation that seem to be facing struggles, asking God to bring reconciliation. *names changed |
