Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving . . . For the Lord is the great God, And the great King above all gods.” (Psalm 95:1-3, NKJV) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in giving thanks. Thanksgiving! November brings an opportunity to share in the custom and meaning of the American Thanksgiving holiday. There are gatherings in homes to share meals and introduce friends to this holiday that most know little about. In some classrooms, Americans can share their culture as they tell about the history of Thanksgiving and how it is a celebration of God’s provision. Journeymen Daniel Rice, Jose Medina and Megan Stuckey, as well as missionaries Mark and Mie Busby, serving in North Tokyo, Japan, are well into a semester of reaching university students. Seikei, Asia, and Temple Universities, plus a vocational school for acupuncture, all have students responding to their outreach. These North Tokyo Team members, along with Japanese fellow believers, are doing a special once-a-month event the last week of each month. November will be focused on Thanksgiving, since American culture and English are great attractions for Japanese. They will get to share how God was involved with the Pilgrims and how that was inspired by Jesus. They will also get to talk about what they are thankful for, like the cross and the resurrection. This will all lead into a Christmas outreach in December. * Please pray that Japanese students will joyfully hear, receive, and believe the Gospel through these cultural exchanges. * Pray that God will open many doors across East Asia and that people’s hearts will be turned to thoughts of giving thanks to the God of the universe. * As joyful and valuable as these opportunities are, some missionaries will experience a deep sense of loss over the next few weeks--loss due to separation from family in the U.S., loss because they miss out on familiar traditions. Lift up those who are serving that they will experience an extra serving of God’s blessing. A NOTE FROM THE PRAYER OFFICE: IMB will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29, to allow all staff to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. PrayerLine will be distributed again on Monday, December 2. Give thanks to the Lord! |
