The Western Niger Fulani love to hear the radio and movies in their own language. Recently International Service Corps worker Austin Holcomb went to the village of “Easton” to show the “JESUS” film. He reports that no one moved during the movie. No one went to say evening prayers or to get food. Everyone was captivated, until the truck battery used to power the projector ran out. On the next attempt, Austin set everything up and started the movie where they had left off, but there was no sound. Frustrated and embarrassed, he began to pack up the equipment after the silent movie was finished. But the Fulani weren’t finished. They wanted to watch the movie again--even with no sound. Austin says, “As I stood back to observe, more than 100 people had come again and were trying to recall the story on film. ‘Stunned’ and ‘humbled’ are the best words to describe my gut feelings. Our ‘ruined’ plans could be what God had prescribed.” During November, workers distributed mosquito nets to families with young children in the Wassulu village of Butler.* This “Net the Village” project was carried out as a foundational relationship-building project with the chief, elders and villagers. The nets were freely given because the lives of these villagers matter to God--so much so that He has sent much more than a mosquito net; He has sent His Son, Jesus Christ. * Please pray that the chief and leaders will be open to a public viewing of the “JESUS” film and testimonies. * Pray for these Fulani to clearly hear God’s voice calling them to trust and follow Him, giving thanks for the way that the Holy Spirit speaks directly to hearts with no spoken words! * Express praise to the One whose birth and sinless, holy life we honor at all times—for Jesus is the reason for all seasons. |
