“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for those living with war all around them.

It is settled. A new president has been seated in Afghanistan. The people are once again hopeful that change for the good might come to their nation. This new president has a doctorate in economics, so the country is hopeful that their nation might become more stable. Yet the bombings continue. The presence of the Taliban is very real. There is fear that each new day might bring more tragic news. “Will I be in the market shopping when the next bomb goes off? Will I be walking to school when someone rides by on a bike that has a bomb attached to it, and it explodes? Will I be coming from a wedding and have the bus stopped and all of my family killed?” These questions are valid for Tajiks of Afghanistan, since each one of these events actually happened in the past month. The Sadaye Zindagi radio program presents the gospel in their language and there are Tajik believers standing strong in their faith in the community.

Saadi* and his family have been going about their lives as the society around them has been falling apart. They had been comforted by the small things, like knowing that the fighting going on around them did not directly involve their Tuareg tribe, but things are constantly changing. Saadi and his friends are no longer viewed as bystanders, but they are now seen as potential recruits.

* Please pray for Saadi and other Tuareg as they face pressure to make decisions about where to live and whether to take a side in the conflict, pray that the turmoil will make them more open to the gospel message.

* Intercede for Tajiks living in Afghanistan that they will cry out to God for help and for hope.

* Give thanks for Jesus who came to fill us with joy and peace.
