“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” (Isaiah 9:2a, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for Sub-Saharan African peoples.

When living among a people group that is majority Islamic and nearly everyone, regardless of their professed religion, intermixes the worship of ancestors and spirits, it’s easy to feel like one is walking in the midst of darkness. Jesus came at a time that was very dark for the people of Israel. They had been in bondage and without a word from the Lord for centuries. God came down and burst through the darkness as Prophet, Priest and King. Some working among the Sereer of Senegal and the Gambia have found themselves overwhelmed by the darkness around them and need your prayers.

Christmas in the United States is a busy time filled with accomplishing all the many tasks that make the season festive. For many, this may mean making a wish list of all that their heart desires, or perhaps rushing around to find the best deals to meet someone else’s wish list. For the believer, it means finding quiet moments among the chaos to focus on Christ and God’s generous blessings. It is a time to weed out the noise and focus on the real meaning of the season. Still, good things can consume the time.

Thank you for being intentional in finding time to pray. The Christmas season for the Digo of Kenya and Tanzania brings a spike in tourism plus opportunities for work or criminal activity. It brings tourists who show that it is a season for drunkenness and immorality. The true meaning of Christmas is lost to many Digo people.

* Please pray that the things of this world will grow dim for the Digo people and the light of Christ will shine bright throughout this holiday season.

* Intercede for encouragement and renewed fervor for those reaching the Sereer people, asking God to help them keep their eyes fixed on Jesus.

* Pray for believers to communicate the celebration of Christmas in a way that brings glory to the eternal Savior rather than joy over temporal presents.
