"Therefore let everyone who is faithful pray to You at a time that You may be found.” (Psalm 32:6a)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Carlos Mauricio Funes Cartagena of El Salvador (Central America, between Guatemala and Honduras).

LAST FRONTIER - A new Bible study has begun among ethnic minority students who are from a country that offers access to a Last Frontier people group. The Bible study has been started with believing university students who want to grow and learn more truth. Workers are encouraging these students not only to learn more for themselves, but also to begin reaching out in their university and study groups to their own ethnic minority group, as well as to develop a vision for reaching the neighboring Last Frontier people group. Pray that weekly meetings will be meaningful to all who attend and that leaders can be effective in casting a clear and compelling vision.

MUSLIMS OF SOUTH AFRICA - After hearing the Gospel message from a friend, a Muslim responded, “You are such a devoted Christian. I’ve never met anyone like you. Your people must be in decline.” While this Muslim woman lives in a nation filled with those who call themselves Christians, very few have ever lived like Jesus around her or shared the Gospel with her. Pray for believers in South Africa to faithfully share the Good News of Christ with their Muslim friends.

Love is a tomato sandwich

The tomato is one of God’s masterpieces. Many a friend has been made over a tomato sandwich. Love is what it’s about, of course, not tomato sandwiches per se. But the two go together. The act of breaking bread together is a natural way to bless others, especially the hungry and needy, with the love of Christ.

Flavors of the world: pursuing Jesus’ mission through food
Missions often begins with food and hospitality. The multi-week “Flavors of the World” series continues this week with a focus on Asia. Read about building friendship in a Chinese kitchen, a 91-year-old volunteer who uses food to teach English in Thailand and how cooking classes unite women in South Asia. Find stories, recipes, photos and videos showing how Christians can pursue Jesus’ mission through food.

Worldview training hones Native Americans’ disciple making
More than 50 Native American pastors and lay leaders gathered in Albuquerque, N.M., to learn about people group engagement and the role worldview plays in sharing Christ cross-culturally. Those new tools will prove helpful as Native American believers travel outside the United States and take a greater role in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Hope for refugees
Communities of Bhutanese refugees in the U.S. have found much more than freedom from their home country. Many have found the true hope that comes from faith in Jesus Christ and are free to meet together in churches. Read and see how the church is growing among these often overlooked refugees.

Refugees hope – In Atlanta and Oakland, Bhutanese refugees are free to worship.

Ends of the earth – A Bhutanese refugee gets a heart for Atlanta.

Pray

Get ready to pray
A student in Spain leads a university outreach program that saved him. A missionary kid with autism left South America to make disciples in Japan. Workers help U.S. churches connect in Mexico, Madagascar and South Asia, and they train leaders to reach refugees in Thailand and city dwellers in South Asia. Even cancer can’t stop a single female missionary in Scotland. Learn how your prayers and giving are lining up with God’s plans!  Share these stories during Week of Prayer, Dec. 1-8.

As you prepare for Week of Prayer, don’t forget to order Week of Prayer bookmarks to remind church members to pray during Dec. 1-8 for missionaries, national believers and partnering U.S. churches who are being totally His.

Years of prayer yield surreal meeting for Virginia church
Ellen Zaborsky sits in the sanctuary of Unity Baptist Church in Prince George, Va., wrapped in a vibrant pink taseynest, women’s traditional West African attire. Though her heart is firmly planted in West Africa, she won’t ever set foot there. A wheelchair and a heart condition have ensured that. But on this Sunday morning, a piece of West Africa has come to her as Ibrahim,* the first-known believer among the “Hidden People,” preaches a sermon to Unity’s congregation.

Gaza Lighthouse: ‘A beacon of hope for a brighter future’
The Lighthouse School in Gaza City, Palestine, has become a place of refuge for its 266 elementary-aged students, and Southern Baptists are helping to alleviate their hunger through donations to Global Hunger Relief.

Pray that the children of Lighthouse School will come to understand Jesus’ love in spite of the hatred and violence around them.

Give to support hunger needs around the world.

Speaking of missions

Missions by the Book:  I seek you
“God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You. I thirst for You; my body faints for You in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water” (Psalm 63:1, HCSB).

Quotable: Peace and joy – today!
I have come from far away and walked a long time to come here to meet with you all.… I see peace and joy in your faces.… I’m tired of living with worry, fear, frustration, anger and bad thoughts. If it is this Jesus you worship who gives you this peace and joy, then I want Him in my life, too.… I want this today!

A NOTE FROM THE PRAYER OFFICE: We experienced computer problems in recent days that affected our mailings. This mailing is being re-sent in case you did not receive it earlier. Thank you for your faithfulness to intercede for the lost around the world.

Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST

October 29, 2013

"May the LORD be praised, for He has heard the sound of my pleading.” (Psalm 28:6)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Rafael Correa Delgado of Ecuador (northwestern South America).

FULBE FUTA (FOUTA) JALON OF GUINEA (FUL-bay/FOO-tuh jah-lone) - “I believe what you say is true. Jesus is the way to God, but I cannot follow Jesus because I am afraid. There are many people who believe that Jesus is the way, but we all are too afraid to follow.” “It sounds to me like people are more afraid of men than they are of God.” “It is exactly as you say.” This is a conversation a worker had with a young Fulbe woman. Fear of man is a major stronghold of the evil one, and it keeps people from following the Truth. It is a true fear, because persecution is very real--but God is more real. Pray for courage for those who know that Jesus is the Truth, asking that they will trust Him completely and follow Him. Pray for people to fear God, not man.

NORTHERN KHMER OF THAILAND (kuh-MER) - “We praise God that our Northern Khmer Team members have now all moved into our new location, and we are excited to begin working with the local fellowship. One exciting new development has been seeing the local fellowship open a new evangelism center. We are thankful to see their heart to reach the people of the city of Surin. Please pray that God will use this new ministry in a great way. Pray that He will lead many seekers to this ministry through the English classes we will start or vocational training that will be offered. Also pray that we will be able to form Bible studies to train and equip local believers and that we will have opportunities to do training or church planting-type seminars on a regular basis.”

The next generation will be told about the Lord. They will come and tell a people yet to be born about His righteousness.” (Psalm 22:30b-31a)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed of Djibouti (eastern Africa, between Eritrea and Somalia).

DEAF PEOPLES - Please pray for the Deaf prostitutes in the red-light districts of Southeast Asia. Many women who lack education and job opportunities are forced by their families to start such work. Please pray for these women in this dark place to see and understand that Jesus is the Light and can give them joy and a purpose for living.

ZAW PEOPLE OF CHINA - Please pray for a Zaw couple that is expecting their first child. After grieving the loss of several children through miscarriage, they are now more than seven months along. In the months before the wife learned that she was pregnant, these two came to follow the one true God. Ask that the birth of this baby will be a testimony to their whole family and village of His favor and power.

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.” (Psalm 91:14, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for young people as they discover and grow in faith.

“Are you trying to convert me?” the teenage boy asked. “No,” responded the young believer to his Gujarati friend. “I just want to make sure that you get the chance to hear the Truth. I want you to know what I believe.” This young believer shares the Word with his friends and longs for the day that they will follow Christ. He knows that soon he will leave Gujarat, India and worries that his friends won’t have any more opportunities to hear the Truth.

In 2006, God provided for the start of a learning center for young girls with little hope who were living in difficult areas of Bangladesh among people who saw them as “the lowest of the low.” These girls have become teenagers now, and 14 of them have asked Jesus to be their Lord and Savior.

A group of believers recently visited Saudi Arabia to do an event with youth. At the last minute, they used a roll of masking tape to give each of the participants a nametag. For these underprivileged youth, being identified by name was a significant event. During each of the following days, the youth made sure that everyone had a tag with their name on it.

While working with the Boitshoko Community Centre in Soweto, South Africa, the Soweto Evangelism Team has seen eight more people become believers.

* Please pray for six Soweto youth who have started a Bible study with a missionary.

* Give thanks that God already knows each of the Hijazi Saudi Arab youth by name and pray that they will come to know His Son, Jesus.

* Ask the Lord to keep these teenagers of Chittagong, Bangladesh, strong and growing in their faith and that the seeds planted by this young Gujarati believer will take root and bear fruit in the lives of his friends.
