More than 130 killed by cyclone, stampede in India IMAt least 22 people were killed when tropical cyclone Phailin touched down Saturday, Oct. 12, in India’s Odisha state and continued through to Andhra Pradesh state. Sunday, as the cyclone finished its second day of destruction, a stampede near a Hindu temple in Madhya Pradesh led to the death of 109 more people. Pray as the people of India rebuild and recover physically from this disaster, they would heed it as an opportunity to cry out to the Creator, ask personnel. Saved in a bar: the story of an accidental church planter George Mbonye was working in a tin-shack bar when a traveling evangelist entered and began preaching. Mbonye and seven other men were saved that day. The eight men bought the bar, turning it into a church. Thirty years later, Mbonye is a Baptist pastor who serves as the leader of a thriving network of churches in Uganda. Sherwood Baptist Church presents gift to Global Hunger Relief For the third year in a row, Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga., producers of the films Courageous and Fireproof, presented a check for $100,000 for international missions to IMB at its annual staff retreat. This year, Michael Catt, senior pastor of Sherwood, also presented President Tom Elliff a $17,000 check for Global Hunger Relief. Pastors partner to embrace unengaged, unreached people group Two friends, both pastors, attended a breakout session about sub-Saharan African people groups at an IMB Embrace conference. One felt God’s call to go to Africa. The other, however, felt nothing. But God had a plan to involve both pastors in a partnership that is having eternal impact on an unengaged, unreached people group in Africa.
