October 10th is designated by the Southeast Asian peoples affinity as a Day of Prayer for Ho Chi Minh. On the surface, the city looks to be a very positive place. New businesses, new construction, and a young population tend to give an optimistic impression. Bright lights from restaurants, shopping malls and high-rise office buildings, however, don’t tell the whole story. In reality, the city is covered in the darkness of spirit and idol worship. God tells us that He is a jealous God. How many instances of infidelity does it take to displease Him? The peoples of Vietnam are extremely spiritual. At the core of their spirituality, however, is the act of worshipping the spirits of deceased ancestors and placating the spirits of other dead from generations past. Virtually every household in Vietnam contains an ancestor altar or areas where the family offers prayers to the spirits of the dead, burning incense to them or sacrificing food and symbolic money or physical property to them. New believers in Jesus Christ are typically branded as “ancestor traitors” and often face severe persecution from their families. Sadly, less than 3 percent of the people living in Ho Chi Minh City - men and women, boys and girls - have found the hope of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. The people are trapped in that darkness, deceived by the lies of Satan to worship false gods and spirits. * Please pray that God will raise up laborers in the city to share the Gospel. * Pray that the people will turn from robbing God of the worship due His name to giving their devotion totally to Him. * Commit yourself to praying regularly for this city, formerly known as Saigon.
