Trapped missionaries recount Nairobi mall ordeal
IMB missionaries Chris and Jamie Suel, along with their five children, had walked into the mall shortly before terrorists burst in firing automatic weapons and throwing hand grenades. The family separated, and it was only after five harrowing hours that they were reunited.

Theological education is primary strategy for Eurasia
IMB is re-emphasizing theological education as a primary strategy for reaching the lost of Europe and Central Asia. With new personnel on the ground and a renewed impetus for training leaders, Eurasia leadership foresees a future of multiplied church planting.

Missionaries’ reach extends to all of East Africa through students
Discipleship is multiplied in East Africa as IMB missionaries like Anthony Shelton mentor seminary students like George Mbonye. The students are then empowered to return home to disciple other leaders and community members.

WorldView: No shortcuts for disciples
We want closeness to God without prayer, Bible knowledge without study, church growth without missions, blessings without obedience. But there are no shortcuts to becoming a disciple. God’s economy doesn’t work that way. Grace is free, but it isn’t cheap. It cost God the life of His Son.

Take it personally: World Hunger Sunday Oct. 13
When will you get personal about hunger? God expects us to demonstrate an urgency to pray, to give and to minister on behalf of those who are hungry, offering nourishment for the body and soul. Learn more about the Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund and plan to participate in World Hunger Sunday, Oct. 13.

The difference pigs make
Rural pastors in India were struggling to provide food for their families and give time and energy to their ministries. Pastor Paulus Maharaj (name changed) wanted that to change. Through support from the World Hunger Fund and Baptist Global Response, 20 pastors now have thriving pig farms.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

A gallery of ideas from churches
Run a race, display nativities from around the world, have a missions movie night. For several years, we have been gathering ideas from churches for promoting the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. We hope these ideas will inspire you and help you lead your own church to a successful offering. Will you contribute your ideas? Write us at LMCO@imb.org.

Children’s resources: teach what God wants
Since we are totally His, we have to be ready to sacrifice and give up everything for things that God wants, not what we want. It’s a big lesson, but kids in our churches aren’t too young to be learning about it. Learn more about Lottie Moon Christmas Offering resources for children.

Find resources for the pastor, missions leader and students.

Speaking of missions

Missions by the Book: Serve well the Lord
“Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord” (Ephesians 6:7-8, HCSB).

Quotable: Great will be your reward
“I am in awe of the fact that I serve a God who sees and knows all and will reward every act of obedience. … God will not only reward missionaries, but He will reward everyone who lives in obedience to His will for their life.”
From “Great will be your reward,” Missionary Blog Digest, Sept. 19.
