| Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST October 21, 2013 "I call on You, God, because You will answer me; listen closely to me; hear what I say.” (Psalm 17:6) WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Jiri Rusnok of Czech Republic (central Europe, southeast of Germany). MBUNDA OF WESTERN ZAMBIA (m-BOON-duh) - Mbunda Pastor L had had all he could take. His tiny rural church in western Zambia was trying his patience to the “nth” degree! In a moment of weakness, Pastor L phoned a fellow pastor, C: “I quit! No one will support me! I’m resigning!” Pastor L faces a unique problem in his church. He and most of the members are from the Mbunda tribe. The few other families are Lozi by tribe. The church constantly struggles with disagreements. After his desperate phone call, IMB missionaries Gerri Helton and Melissa Frady hurried to visit Pastor L and offer some sorely needed words of encouragement. Pastor L shared his vision with the missionaries. He wanted to evangelize, to start new “teaching points,” and to plant new churches. But no one in the church shared his vision except for one deacon. As the missionaries listened, they encouraged Pastor L to go back to the basics: “1. Get on your knees in prayer before God! 2. Read the Bible daily! 3. Regardless of anything else, teach the Word, teach the Word, teach the Word! 4. And go with the one deacon and witness!” Pray for Pastor L to have strength in his spirit to remember and practice “the basics.” Pray for his congregation, both Mbunda and Lozi members, to catch his vision. Pray for yourself, that even when you are discouraged and you feel like quitting, you will remember to do what’s really important and trust the Lord with the results. THAI-MALAY OF THAILAND (ty-mah-LAY) - “Our Thai-Malay Team was able to visit Aubrey* several times in the past few months. He has been reading the Bible that he had gotten from a nearby country. He told us about his son, who has lost the use of his left arm and leg after a surgery on his brain to remove a tumor. We were able to visit with the whole family, read to them from the Bible, and pray for them. One of our team members has some skills in massage, so he has been visiting Aubrey’s son regularly in order to massage his arm and leg. Praise God that he is able to move both his arm and leg some now! Please pray for our team as we share and for this family, asking that they will respond to the message of the Gospel.” (*pseudonym) For additional prayer requests, click here: Today’s Prayer (If you have difficulty with this link, please go to www.imb.org and click on the “Pray” tab, and then click on the “Today’s Prayer” link in the left-hand column.) |
