“Therefore I tell you, all the things you pray and ask for--believe that you have received them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:24)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Laura Chinchilla Miranda of Costa Rica (Central America).

BANGALORE HOSPITAL, KARNATAKA STATE, INDIA (BANG-ah-lohr) - Thank you for praying about the possibility of a satellite hospital. Praise God that this vision is becoming reality, as a building has been rented in a town about 40 miles from the base hospital. Pray for the planning of space allocation, the remodeling, and the recruitment of staff. Ask that this facility will meet both physical and spiritual needs.

MANDINKA OF WEST AFRICA (man-DINK-uh) - October 15 is the official start of the Islamic holiday of Tabaski, in commemoration of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his first son. Muslims gather in the mosque for a service and then return home to “sacrifice” a sheep--and then the feasting begins! It’s a day for eating and sharing with your family. Part of the sacrifice is given to those less fortunate so that they can celebrate too. Everyone dons their finest garb, and later the children go door-to-door, asking for money so they can buy treats. A Mandinka Team member writes: “While the idea of a holiday to celebrate a willingness to submit to God’s will sounds commendable, the spiritual confusion of the holiday saddens me. Some believe that the ‘first son’ of Abraham is Ishmael; others say that it’s Isaac. Some say that Abraham actually slit his son’s throat but the child didn’t die; others say that he raised the knife and an angel stopped him. Some see the sheep as a symbol of this sacrifice; others believe that the sheep pardons their sins. In the end, I haven’t gotten a clear explanation of Tabaski. The story is a biblical account found in the Old Testament, but the truth has been lost. The people seem to have an innate knowledge that a sacrifice is required for the covering of sins. Please pray for these whose beliefs are founded in truth that has gotten distorted, causing them to reject the very God they desire to please.”
