“Be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.” (1 Peter 3:8b-9, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for marriages.

Broken family units are seen everywhere among Arab peoples who make the United Kingdom home. Most often the men are absent, working long hours or out with their friends, chewing “qat” (a narcotic leaf). Some choose to find love with a person other than their legal wife. Islam allows a man three wives, and some men marry another woman for so-called “love” using the Sharia system, which is not recognized by the British government. This understandably leaves the first wife, frequently from an arranged marriage, in utter heartbreak. On average, these first families have three or more children, who are caught up in this storm. The wife feels humiliated, as culturally the shame is on her for not being able to “keep” her husband, although he most often is either breaking his marital vows or living an unclean life according to his professed faith’s standards. Many of the wives feel deeply resentful. Ask the Holy Spirit to give believers wisdom, teaching them how to be supportive yet still speak truth into these families’ lives.

“Tips for a Better Marriage” is the title of a workshop being offered by Op Weg Faith Community in Ghent, Belgium as both a ministry to its members and an outreach to its surrounding neighborhoods. A volunteer team from a partnering church in the United States will come is now in Belgium to work with this young church. In two weeks, the church will show the film “Fireproof” as a follow-up activity.

* Please pray for the church in Belgium that their community neighbors will see the love the believers have for each other and desire to know more.

* Intercede for Arab families in the United Kingdom that they will encounter God’s truth.

* Ask God to bless the marriages in your own congregation with purity and faithfulness.

“What man among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:9-11)

WORLD LEADERS - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Governor Eloy Inos of Northern Mariana Islands (North Pacific Ocean, east of the Philippines).

HIJAZI SAUDI ARABS OF SAUDI ARABIA (hi-JAH-zee) - After the discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia decades ago, society became dependent upon guest workers to perform all but the most prestigious jobs. As the average age of Saudis gets younger and younger, and as more Saudis are being educated in foreign universities, there are not enough jobs to go around. Many of these youth and young adults are finding themselves with a lot of time on their hands. They are not satisfied with the status quo. They are unhappy with the lack of jobs, the restrictions placed on them by society, and the contradictions of their traditional beliefs. They are seeking something to fill the emptiness in their lives. Pray that God will use this dissatisfaction to lead young Hijazi Saudi Arabs to Himself.

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN PEOPLES - You know you’re an MK (missionary kid) when you have a hard time answering the question, “Where are you from?” you know how to pack a suitcase really well, you feel odd being in the ethnic majority, and your parents’ siblings are strangers to you but you have more than 50 “aunts” and “uncles” whom you are not related to at all. MKs are an interesting group. They grow up with a broad worldview, learn multiple languages, learn to appreciate different cultures, and tend to make friends very quickly--especially with other MKs. Activities that are common for many children and youth in churches in the United States (like summer camp) are not always things that MKs get to experience. This June, MKs from the Central Sahel Cluster and the Western Gateway Cluster will join together in Senegal for a youth retreat. A volunteer team from Texas will be helping to make this happen. Please begin praying now for flights, visas, and the many preparations needed to pull together these youth from all over West Africa. Pray for safety in travel for the MKs and the volunteers. For some, this may be the first time away from their families, so pray for a calm spirit for the MKs and all of those moms and dads too. Ask God to speak clearly to these youth about His plan for their lives. Thank God for this team of volunteers who will take time away from their own families to minister to these MKs.

“Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught, either by our message or by our letter.” (2 Thessalonians 2: 15, HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, encouraging you to pray for new believers.

Since accepting Christ, Esther* has continued to struggle with her health. She was readmitted to the hospital the end of last year with severe swelling, indicating renal failure. God healed her, and she was able to return home. Still, she suffers with abdominal pains and malnutrition. She appears to have a long journey back to her former health. Spiritually, however, Esther is standing strong. She is attending her Digo church in Kenya and is standing by her decision. Her stance is significant. Rarely will a new believer coming from another religion attend church so readily. She still plans to be baptized soon.

Bob* and Chuck* are two Jahanka brothers about 20 years old who have chosen to follow Christ and were recently baptized. They are steadily growing in their faith but their mother, who is also a believer, is not yet ready to be baptized. There are many financial needs for this absent-father family.

Two grass huts, a Tuareg man, his wife, and several children sat in an open compound in the Sahara Desert. Mohammed* had heard the story of Jesus many times but did not believe. He became ill and went to a hospital, where he once again heard the Truth. When he returned home, he described his time there and said that it was like he had been blind but now he could see. A few weeks later, Mohammed was being taught the “Creation to Christ” story so he could share it with his family and friends. As he was learning it, he was pleading with his children to believe.

* Please pray for believers like Mohammed to have a sense of urgency in sharing the Gospel with their family, friends and neighbors.

* Ask God to encourage Bob, Chuck, and their mother as they fully trust Him with the future.

* Pray that Esther never ceases to testify of her faith in Jesus Christ.

“Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to You. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom, and You are exalted as head over all.” (1 Chronicles 29:11)

Please pray today for Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un of North Korea (eastern Asia, between China and Japan).

KARACHI, PAKISTAN (kah-RAH-chee) - “You may not know it, but there is an active community of believers in Karachi and all across the country. I believe that the Lord is working in the believers of the city and that it will be through the power of the Holy Spirit working in the churches that many of the majority community will come to faith. It only makes sense that the body of Christ that exists in the city will be the catalyst in this dark place to spread the Light. A study has begun with members of our fellowship to teach them how to share their faith with those around them and why it is important that they do so. Please pray for these meetings, and ask that through the training, the people being taught will feel the Spirit leading them to those who will spread the Word farther than any of them could individually. Pray for revival in the churches in Pakistan, and while you are at it, let’s pray for a general revival within the entire body of Christ so that those who are being called out for His service will heed that call and the world will see the glory of God through the salvation of many.”
http://southasianpeoples.imb.org/

YAWO OF NORTHERN MOZAMBIQUE (YAH-oo) - When a Yawo farmer wishes to open up a new area to plant his crops, he will go to a place that has never before been farmed. He begins little by little to cut down hundreds of trees, leaving their stumps to hold the soil in place when the rains come. He clears away rocks and other unwanted brush and deals with the threat of wild animals. This is called “mbanje” (pronounced m’BAH-n’je). It is very difficult work, and it takes a lot of time before the first crop of maize can be realized. Workers write: “We, too, are in an ‘mbanje’ stage as we try to open up a new field of ministry. There is a lot of ground preparation that is taking place and seemingly very little progress so far. Would you please pray for those of us who are working in new areas where the evil one has his ‘roots’ (lies) deeply embedded and a lot of ‘rocks’ and ‘brush’ need to be cleared to be able to sow the seed of Truth--the Gospel?”

“Everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:8)

Please pray today for Administrator Neil Pope of Norfolk Island (South Pacific Ocean, east of Australia).

CENTRAL ASIAN PEOPLES COMMUNICATION TEAM - Please continue praying for the completion of the Action Bible, a graphic-novel version of the New Testament. The revisions came back from the text checkers, and they were more than expected. This has caused more work and, thus, a bit of a delay in going to press. Pray for perseverance and diligence for those involved in this project.

NORTH TOKYO, JAPAN (TOH-kyoh) - Missionaries Marsha Woods and Hannah Sharick had just finished praying over their lunch when a woman sitting next to them asked if they were Christians. This question led to a 30-minute discussion and testimony time of the woman’s journey to faith in Jesus. She introduced them to her own family and then told them something that missionaries in Japan rarely hear: “Thank you for bringing the Good News to us Japanese and for helping us to spread the word to our friends and families.” Please pray for missionaries in Japan to have continued encouragement. Ask God to help missionaries and Japanese believers to work together to reach the lost of Japan.

“We also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” (Romans 5:3a-4, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for StoryOne camps.

In Southeast Asia, a Deaf man came to help disciple and train two partners by teaching the StoryOne method of crafting Bible stories in their heart language. These two Deaf partners have completed seven of the 21 stories plus one additional that has not yet been videotaped. But since the first meeting several months ago, which seemed so promising, these national believers have been less enthusiastic and are less willing to return to complete the video and work on the stories.

In East Asia Deaf are involved in a special training camp in which they are also learning the StoryOne method of telling God’s stories to their own people. They seek God’s wisdom for those who are teaching and understanding for those attending.

In December, Deaf believers met for a StoryOne camp in South Africa. We prayed for the Deaf to craft the Bible stories in the heart language of their people and videotape all 21 stories. Praise the Lord that although the group did not complete all the stories, they did complete several on video. It was challenging for the group to put forth the effort, but they were unified and agreed on the signs to be used for each story.

Another StoryOne camp is being planned soon, probably late April. Dates and location are still being determined. The Lord has already provided eager brothers and sisters to come, craft Bible stories in the heart language, and film the stories to be distributed to the Deaf.

* Please pray now that the editing work will be completed for future distribution of the stories on DVD.

* Ask God to remove the obstacles in Southeast Asia so that the team can complete the remaining stories.

* Pray for the Deaf to have a heart of deep compassion as they can reach other with the Gospel.

“. . . It is not by sword or by spear that the LORD saves, for the battle is the LORD’s.” (1 Samuel 17:47)

Please pray today for Premier Toke Talagi of Niue (island east of Australia, south of Samoa).

EUROPEAN PEOPLES - 800 million . . . can you envision what that number looks like? What size jar would you need to hold that many jelly beans or pennies? It’s a number that our minds can barely comprehend. It is also the number of people who call themselves Europeans. 800 million people spread across a vast continent . . . and nearly 99 percent of them do not have a personal relationship with Christ. Will you join the 700 members of the European Peoples affinity group in pleading with God for the salvation of these people? Ask Him to break down the barriers and remove the obstacles that are preventing Europeans from seeking Him. Pray that they will be convicted of the sin in their lives, realize their need for a Savior, and turn to Him in confession and repentance.

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - Tucked into Kebbi, the most northwesterly state of Nigeria, which borders Niger and Benin, is a little-known people group of approximately 30,000 Islamic people, the Baangi. A missionary researcher walked among the Baangi recently. After greeting people and observing the mosques, the question was asked, “Are there any Christians among your people?” “Oh yes,” the people responded. “We had one, but he died last year.” Pray that these unengaged and unreached people will become engaged, turn to Christ and life, and cease their endless march toward eternal death.

“Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

Please pray today for President Jonathan Goodluck of Nigeria (western Africa, south of Niger).

NU OF COLOMBIA (noo) - The Nu community of C was the first to receive the Gospel message. The majority of people in that community are baptized believers and have grown in their walk with the Lord to the point of seeing many concrete changes in their daily lives. They have grown in their sense of community and even in their concept of “church.” There is still, however, one vital piece missing: These believers have yet to recognize the need to share the Good News with those Nu clans that have not had access to the Gospel message. Pray as national missionaries John* and Lia* prepare and plan new chronological Bible stories and ways to address this issue. Ask that the believers will understand their call and the need to send people from among them to share the Gospel with other groups of Nu people. This will require the community not only to support the individuals who go, but also to care for their families while they are away. This would be a huge breakthrough in the strategy to reach the rest of the Nu communities with the Gospel message. (*pseudonyms)

OSAKA, JAPAN (OH-sah-kah) - “Hanami,” which means “flower viewing” (of mostly cherry and plum blossoms), occurs every year toward the latter part of March and into early April. At this time, the Japanese gather beneath the blossoming trees to have an outdoor party. There they eat a boxed lunch and often drink alcoholic beverages while viewing the blossoms. There are many beautiful and famous places in Osaka for “hanami.” The missionaries want to take this opportunity to be out and about, looking for people to talk with about not only the beauty of nature set before them, but also about the One who created this beauty for mankind to enjoy. Please pray for spontaneous conversations to occur that will lead to sharing about the Creator God. “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16, NIV).
