“I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me.” (Matthew 25:35b-36a, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for those who persevere.

A boy in the Last Frontier is usually the first student to arrive. He greets his teacher, places his books in his desk, and runs outside to play. Reflecting on the previous year, the teacher can’t believe the progress in this student’s life. Though mocked by friends and other students, Drew* showed tenacity and an eagerness to learn English. Looking at him, there wasn’t much to see: a thin young boy, wearing the same dirty, worn-out, hole-filled shirt each week. In a place where persecution and darkness temporarily rule, the teacher worked with Drew each week, encouraging, mentoring and loving him.

While sharing life with the people of the desert of Northern Africa, believers inevitably also experience the daily joys and losses. After spending countless hours and many nights drinking tea and sharing the truth of the Lord with a man of the desert, the believer lost his elderly father. This deep loss provided an opportunity to share the assurance that believers have in facing eternity.

On a sunny morning, a group was distributing Bibles at a bus stop in a neighborhood in Europe when they observed a North African woman staring at them. At various times, they took turns offering her the Bible, all the while smiling and trying to engage her in tender conversation. At first, she refused both. Yet several buses came and the woman remained at the bus stop, continuing to stare. She said, “The local people never come to our neighborhood, but you’re here. I’m glad you’re here.” Someone cared and was not fearful of her people.

* Please pray that many more followers of Jesus will go into the Northern African neighborhoods to demonstrate the care and concern of the Lord.

* Intercede for this man of the desert, who has not yet believed in Jesus, that his eyes will be opened.

* Pray that Drew will become a follower of Jesus whose desire is to serve others.
