“Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 9:10, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, praying with you for those who are observing “Navruz”—new year.

Nowruz, the most-celebrated Central Asian holiday of the year, takes place March 21, when families and friends gather en mass to mark the commencement of spring. They celebrate new life, a new year, and hope for a better future. The Sorani and Behdini Kurds, as well as many Central Asian people groups, do not know that their only hope is in Jesus. Workers in this area will have opportunities to share the Good News during this time of celebration. In February, “The Way of Righteousness” radio program began airing daily. The program broadcasts Bible stories and proclaims the Good News of Christ throughout this region, leading up to Easter. Give thanks for the seed being planted during this season of celebration.

Two communications team members have traveled to northern Iraq to document this celebration in order to later help North American churches engage the Sorani and Behdini Kurds with the Gospel.

The Tajik of Afghanistan also celebrate the first day of spring as their New Year. One of the traditions during the time of Nawruz (literally meaning “new day”) is the process of “Ashtee” or reconciliation. New Year’s Day is traditionally a day for grudges and disputes to be forgiven, and a time to begin with a clean slate. Although this is the tradition, forgiveness is seldom seen in this country. There have been centuries of war and revenge among the different people groups: Tajik, Pashtun, Hazara, Uzbek, Turkmen and others.

* Please pray that the church in Afghanistan will be known as a place where God gives forgiveness and His followers regularly forgive one another.

* Intercede for the communications team members to have good interactions that will lead to effective evangelistic resources.

* Pray for this broadcast to continue, and for many people to visit the new seeker website that is referenced in the broadcast.
