“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for people facing spiritual fear.

The 55,000 Yanghuang people in the hills of southern Guizhou, China, have not heard the name of Jesus Christ. They are polytheistic. They continue to practice animistic rituals, sacrifices, and offerings to spirits. The Yanghuang believe if they do not sacrifice and make offering to these spirits, they will surely meet with disaster, illness or death. There are language similarities to that of the majority people group which will undoubtedly help the Yanghuang to hear and understand Gospel broadcasts.

The officials in one northern Angolan town identified 432 street children who had been abandoned or abused after being called witches. The notion of child witches is not new. It is a common belief in Angola’s dominant Bantu culture that witches can communicate with the world of the dead and usurp or “eat” the life force of others, bringing their victims misfortune, illness and death. Adult witches are said to bewitch children by giving them food, then forcing them to reciprocate by sacrificing a family member. Witchcraft starts with a heart of rebellion and works by focusing on a distracter, a lie, which is a technique purported to release power. Believing in lies is an “acceptable sacrifice” to Satan, the father of lies, who honors his children with power. The irony is that due to the inherent deceptive basis of witchcraft, the practitioners of it often think they are serving God, while accessing a power from below--not from above.

* Please pray that these children will be delivered from witchcraft and that someone will share the truth of God’s Word with them.

* Ask God to open the eyes of the Yanghuang, and pray that they will truly see God as He is and that when they hear the message of Christ, they will receive Him with open arms.

* Choose today to live in the abundance that the Lord has provided His children.
