| Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST January 13, 2014 “God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear Him. (Psalm 67:7) WORLD LEADERS - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Serik Akhmetor of Kazakhstan (central Asia, northwest of China). EAST ASIAN PEOPLES - “Ge’ermu in Qinghai province, China, is the focus of the East Asian Peoples Affinity Day of Prayer and Fasting on January 13. It is always held on the second Monday of each month, and we focus on a different people group each month. Please join us in lifting up Ge’ermu. Sitting on the remote Qinghai-Tibet plateau, it is often considered the last stop before Tibet. Please pray that many visitors will share the Good News of Jesus Christ with Ge’ermu’s 176,000 people. For more information on Ge’ermu, you can download ‘15 Spiritually Needy Cities of Northwest China’ from our website.” HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM (HOE-chee-men) - The Lunar New Year or Tet holiday is the most important time of the year for the people of Vietnam. The first day of Tet is on January 31 this year, but the traditions and celebrations will start much earlier in the month and the official holiday will continue until February 5. Families will come together during this time, and the successful observance of the holiday is seen as an indicator of the success of the coming year. Traditions center around acquiring luck, sacrificing to gods who are believed to have authority over the household, visiting temples, and sacrificing to ancestors. Please pray for the people of Ho Chi Minh City during this time, when they are focused on such spiritual pursuits. Pray that God’s Spirit will speak to them, causing dissatisfaction with empty practices and drawing them to Himself. Pray for those who have recently been exposed to the Gospel through the Christmas season to see clearly the truth of God’s offer of salvation through Christ alone. Pray especially for believers, who face the strongest opposition and persecution from their families during Tet. Ask God to strengthen their faith and give them opportunities to make a positive witness to their families.
