There are many obstacles in the path of those who would be faithful believers in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. Huynh* is very close to believing in Jesus but is afraid to make the decision because of opposition from his parents. Duc* is a young believer who, for the same reason, has not yet been strong enough to tell his family that he believes in Jesus Christ. Opposition also comes from those in authority. Recently a local church decided that they could not be involved in evangelistic activities for fear of increased pressure from authorities who might revoke their legal status. A worker recently sent a text message to an Aegean Turkish woman, Olivia*, to ask if she had received the New Testament she had requested from a website. She politely responded that yes, she had received the book and was beginning to read it. However, Olivia went on to say that she feared for her life because if anyone in her family found out that she had the Bible and was reading it, they could take her life. She continued by explaining that she had hidden the book in a certain place in her home. The worker was speechless. Expressing concern and an assurance of prayer, the worker suggested Olivia begin reading in the Book of John. For her to risk her safety to get the Bible, hide it, and sit down to read it once her family was out of the house reveals that Olivia is compelled. * Please pray for Olivia that she will have protected opportunities and understanding as she seeks her hiding place in the Lord. * Ask God to strengthen Vietnamese believers so that they will be fearless in making difficult life choices and continue with evangelistic efforts. * Turn to the Word of God daily and seek Him as your hiding place and shield.
