| Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST January 23, 2014 “In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, for You will answer me.” (Psalm 85:7) WORLD LEADERS - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis of Latvia (eastern Europe, between Estonia and Lithuania). BIHARI MUSLIMS OF BANGLADESH (bee-HAR-ree) - The Bihari tutorial center, started in a Bihari Muslim home nearly a decade ago, is now the Light of Faith Center. Why Light of Faith? One Bangladeshi Christian woman started tutoring Bihari Muslim children with a mustard seed of faith, totally depending on the Lord to use her small offering for His glory. She taught the poor Bihari children to pray in faith for healing and for physical needs, and their faith grew each time they saw God answer their prayers. Day by day, these children and the center staff live by faith, trusting the Lord to provide and multiply their loaves and fishes. Bihari children who now are secret believers have faith that their parents will one day trust in Isa (Jesus) as Savior. Those laboring for years among the Bihari Muslims have faith that mighty God has both the ability and the desire to transform the Bihari community through His Word. The goal is that a multitude of Bihari Muslims will be sanctified by faith in Isa. Jesus said to Saul on the road to Damascus, “. . . open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me” (Acts 26:18). Please pray that Bihari Muslim children and parents alike who come to the Light of Faith Center will step out in faith and trust Isa for salvation from their sins. LUSAKA, ZAMBIA (loo-SAH-kah) - Last September, the urban missionaries of Sub-Saharan Africa came together to develop strategies for reaching the burgeoning cities of Africa. It was an extraordinary time. In this age of hyper-change, in order for ministry in cities like Lusaka to be effective, a “new wineskins” approach must take hold. It is a new construct of missions that moves with the diversity and the vast ebb and flow of the city, going beyond ministry with an exclusively rural view of Africa that now falls short. The emerging Africa is less and less one of great masses living isolated lives in thatched-roof huts and villages with little education, and more and more one of satellite dishes everywhere receiving images from across the world, young people imitating Western hip-hop culture, and gridlocked traffic all day. It’s movie theaters and malls identical to those in the United States, where street children emerge during the night and poverty that is becoming generational grows. It is those who have just moved to the city with their rural traditions, along with government workers, U.N. employees, and managers who are professionals in suits, often with equal or greater education than the missionary. Seventy percent of the population is under 30 years old, forming an energized mass with their eyes on living life just like they see it in the West. As we enter a new year, pray for our missionaries to have wisdom and the execution of biblical outreach to win Lusaka for Christ in this new, 21st century Africa.
