About 100 years ago, Sikhs began settling in Kolkata and the surrounding area. Today there are about 80,000 Sikhs in the city. Sikhs proudly tell of a visit by the famous Guru Nanak to a local Sikh temple in 1508. They say he brought peace and healing during a time of plague. Currently no group is actively seeking to tell the Sikhs in Kolkata of One who can heal and bring peace to the soul. There are 180,000 Lampung Abung (pronounced lam-POONG ah-BOONG) living in the southernmost part of Sumatra, Indonesia. Many Sumatrans are fearful of them and avoid going into their villages. Pray for believers in the area to have God’s love that casts out fear. The MuLao Jia of China are 34,600 people who worship ghosts and false gods, including rice, water, trees and forest spirits. They are known to perform rituals during weddings, funerals, and other important events to appease these false gods. Ask the Lord to reveal Himself to the MuLao Jia, and pray that they will be able to discern the truth from the false gods they currently worship. Will 2014 be any different for the Kwangali of Namibia? Presently less than 2 percent have a personal relationship with Christ, and there is no known church-planting strategy being implemented among them. New missionaries are unable to obtain permanent residency in Namibia, and national believers living in proximity are not reaching out. * Please pray for Engagement Strategy Team leaders Tom and Cindi Melvin as they work with field personnel to devise creative ways to utilize committed Baptist partners in the United States and national Baptists who are willing to bring the Gospel to the Kwangali. * Pray that God will move in someone’s heart to pray for and engage the MuLao Jia of China and all 13 unengaged unreached people groups (UUPGs) on Sumatra, Indonesia. * Ask the Lord to touch the hearts of the Sikh of Kolkata so that they understand His spiritual healing. |
