In Angola, many are frustrated and discouraged by their repeated problems in life. Some question whether God can really help them. Bad decisions follow bad decisions, with no way to avoid the consequences. They struggle with life-destroying habits, manipulative and even abusive relationships, and a sense of hopelessness in ever getting beyond their current plight. They need to know about the One who gives new beginnings and who can break the chains that hold them. These Angolans need stability and long-term hope through Jesus. “Going to visit one of the churches in the far northern part of Malawi is always an interesting journey,” writes a Ngonde Team member. “As you turn off the main thoroughfare, you travel on a dirt road over a bridge that does not appear to be very sturdy. The sight that gets your attention, however, is that of little shacks where homemade beer is made and then the little bamboo structures with thatched roofs where people come to drink. The places are crowded, mostly with men.” Nearby is the local Ngonde church. A man named Mark* in Kabiobio village is married and has seven children. He was known as the village drunk until recently, when he prayed to receive Christ. It will be very difficult for him in the environment in which he lives, but the power of the Gospel changes lives. There are many others like Mark among the BaTonga people in Zambia. * Please pray that as Mark’s life is being changed by God, he will be an example to others of the power of Christ. * Ask God to instill the Ngonde church with a desire to witness to those who frequent the beer shacks, not with condemnation but with the simple truth of God’s love. * Intercede for the people of Angola that they will surrender to Jesus who is able to break any cycle of poor choices.
