| Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST August 25, 2014 “. . . It is not by sword or by spear that the LORD saves, for the battle is the LORD’s.” (1 Samuel 17:47, HCSB) WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Juan Evo Morales Ayma of Bolivia (central South America). LOZI OF ZAMBIA AND NAMIBIA (LOH-zee) - Please pray for Beetty*, a kind Lozi teenager of 17 years who loves to teach the children’s Sunday School class at church. She is fun and generous and welcoming to all children and loves Jesus. The children love her, and it’s easy to see why! Please pray for her as she finishes twelfth grade and then moves away from Sesheke, Zambia, toward the end of the year to stay with her sister in the capital city. The church will feel her loss greatly! Please pray that God will bring another person who loves children and loves to be with them to fill her role as Sunday School teacher. Please also ask Him to protect Beetty from evil and help her to make godly choices in her life. May He continue using her and the talents He has given her to show children and others the way to Jesus. (*pseudonym) SRI LANKA - The island country of Sri Lanka is home to four distinct religions: Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Christianity. Each religion, including Christianity, is viewed as a matter of family inheritance and is maintained through the worship of idols and traditional rituals. Less than 2 percent of Sri Lankans believe that salvation comes through personal faith in Christ alone. A person’s identity and religion are inseparable. To be Sinhalese is to be Buddhist. To be Tamil is to be Hindu. To be Moor is to be Muslim. Catholic Christians inherited their religion from generations before them who converted for Portuguese protection. Evangelical Christians also inherited their religion from the British colonial days. Tolerance is seen as a virtue; the government honors all religious holidays, giving Sri Lankans more national holidays than any other country in the world. However, tolerance extends only to those who stay within the bounds of their particular religion and who refrain from proselytizing. In recent days, as the small evangelical church has extended its witness to the lost around them, the repercussions have been violent. Churches have been vandalized and believers attacked. Pray for boldness for believers who have tasted the goodness of the Lord. May they be salt and light in this land full of illusions, unashamed to stand for the Truth.
