“It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear.” (Isaiah 65:24, NKJV)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Machiel Godfried Eman of Aruba (Caribbean, northwest of Venezuela).

WORLD - The Yezidi people are an unreached unengaged people group from Iraq, Turkey, Syria and Iran. Yezidis have been persecuted by many groups for centuries. On Saturday, ISIS attacked many Yezidi villages, causing men, women and children to flee to the mountains to save their lives. The mountains they fled to are isolated, and the people have no food or water; if they are not killed outright, they will die from lack of water. Please lift this situation up before the Lord. Pray also that the Lord of the harvest will call workers to labor among this people group.

CHINA - Pray for those who have suffered unthinkable loss in the weekend Yunnan earthquake that resulted in hundreds of deaths, thousands of casualties, and hundreds of thousands of destroyed homes. Ask that they will know the power of God’s unsurpassable love. Pray for ongoing rescue and relief work, asking God to protect those still buried under rubble, awaiting rescue. Pray that He will protect and use Christian organizations and workers to minister to those who are suffering.

FULANI OF WESTERN NIGER (foo-LAH-nee) - “For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return there without saturating the earth and making it germinate and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, so My word that comes from My mouth will not return to Me empty . . .” (Isaiah 55:10-11a, HCSB). The rainy season for the Western Niger Fulani spans from late June to September. August rains are vital for a good millet crop, the staple crop of this people group. This time of year, before the harvest, the stored grain from last year’s crop is mostly used up, if not gone. Many families are getting by with one meal a day so they can stretch what little grain they have until the harvest in September. Pray for God’s provision to sustain Western Niger Fulani families. Even more than the millet, pray for seeds of God’s Word to produce a harvest in the hearts of the people. Pray for Western Niger Fulani to hear Gospel radio programs or encounter a rare Fulani believer or a missionary. Ask the Holy Spirit to saturate Fulani hearts and cause the seeds to germinate and sprout.

HONG KONG AND MACAU, CHINA (ma-COW) - On the Chinese lunar calendar, the seventh month is generally known as Ghost Month. It is believed that the gates of hell are opened, allowing the ghosts of those who died tragically (murder, suicide, etc.) or those who are not being cared for by the living to roam the earth. Because these ghosts are supposedly forced to dwell in hell without anyone caring for them, they are released in search of food and comfort for the month. The peak of the month is the Hungry Ghost Festival; this year, it falls on August 10. In order to appease these ghosts, people burn incense and paper money (“hell bank notes”) throughout the month and set out food for these wandering ghosts. They do this so as not to be at risk of making the ghosts unhappy and causing them to bring revenge and trouble on the living. Though the cities of Hong Kong and Macau are quite modern, the traditions of Ghost Month continue to be practiced--not because of tradition, but because of deep-seated superstition and fear. The only way that people can be set free from this spirit of fear is by turning their eyes to the living Lord. Pray that this month will no longer be one of oppression by darkness, but one of seeing people set free in the name of Jesus Christ!
