'A man scatters seed on the ground; he sleeps and rises—night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows—he doesn’t know how. The soil produces a crop by itself—first the blade, then the head, and then the ripe grain on the head.” (Mark 4:26-28, HCSB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for not yet believers. A worker among the Uighur people of Northwest China writes, “The bell rang, and I opened the door of my next class and noticed five of the students bowed in prayer for ‘Namaz,’ which is the Muslim five-times-a-day prayers. The other students saw me hesitate before entering, so they said, ‘They’re praying.’ As I put my books down on the desk, they finished their prayers and took their seats. This occurrence has become more common in the school where I teach. Although the majority of the students don’t pray five times a day, there are a few who are quite devout.” Anita*, a middle-aged Tatar woman of Central Asia, desperately wanted to learn English for her job, and Susan* was hoping to improve her Tatar language skills. Susan suggested that they read the Bible together, using a children’s version in Tatar and in English. Anita borrowed both copies to study over the holidays and read several of the stories. During a lesson, Susan shared about Jesus, but Anita didn’t recognize the name. Finally, when Susan used the Tatar name, Anita responded, “That name, I know.” Susan asked Anita about her personal beliefs. Anita acknowledged that she was Muslim, but shied away from specifics, seeming to indicate that it was offensive to discuss it. * Please pray that Susan and Anita will be able to continue meeting weekly to read through the Bible and discuss its meaning. * Pray for the Uighur people that they will feel an inner push to seek Truth and for the worker to have wisdom in communicating the message of Jesus. * Ask God to bring you into contact with people who need to hear His Word this week.
