The Cape Town Metropolitan Evangelism Team has a diverse ministry in a city of 5.7 million people. The diversity of Cape Town is readily apparent, as there are extremely wealthy people and extremely poor people and lots in between. The world has come to Cape Town through many refugees who are seeking hope; they come from other African nations that are war torn or poverty stricken. Therefore, many languages are spoken in the city in addition to the main languages of English, Afrikaans and Xhosa. These languages are three of the 11 official languages in South Africa. Missionaries are seeking to minister to as many needs of the people living in Cape Town as possible. The ministries include English as a Second Language (ESL), theological education, church leadership training and development, a township school ministry where the Gospel can be preached, and ministry to various religions that are represented in the city. Every week, workers in the Last Frontier prepare lessons and meet with high school students who want to study English. Recently a new student came to the weekly meeting at her friend’s house. God is providing continued access among this population group through the enthusiastic invitations of friends. A group of volunteer university students are setting up English clubs twice a week, prayerwalking, and seeking ways to contact Turkish people in a city in Germany. Give thanks for students who are willing to spend their summer break helping the team reach out to Turkish young people. * Please pray that these Last Frontier meetings will expand in number and relationships. * Pray for missionaries in Cape Town who are seeking to “be all things to all people” in order to share the love of Christ. * Ask God to encourage workers who must learn new languages while teaching English as a means of reaching their community for Christ. |
