“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1Thessalonians 5:16-18, NKJV)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner of Argentina (southern South America).

MOUNTAIN YI OF EAST ASIA (ee) - A few years ago, when the Wang* family divided their inheritance, the two brothers began a feud that lasted for years. When the younger Wang brother became a Christian, his older brother harassed him, told him he was in a cult, and made fun of him in public. The feud continually worsened, until one day, “Older Wang” decided to cut the wire that brought electricity to “Young Wang’s” village home. Older Wang expected Young Wang to go to the government authorities as retribution, but Young Wang, being a new believer and not knowing what to do, asked a mature believer for advice. This believer reminded Young Wang of the Bible story they had just been learning, where Jesus said that we should be willing to forgive “up to 70 times seven.” Then he told Young Wang that he should actually apologize to his brother. Young Wang did just that, saying that a younger brother should never do something to upset his older brother. Older Wang was taken aback. He had no more ammunition with which to fight his brother. His outlook on Christians has changed, and his relationship with his brother has been completely restored! Ask the Lord to bring Older Wang to salvation and to continue to transform families in Yi villages with the Gospel! (*pseudonym)

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - In May, you were asked to lift up to the Lord the Islamic Foodo people’s unengaged status (only 1 known Christian among them) and their need of an Engaging Church to adopt them. Praise the Lord that a church in Nevada, who was considering engagement, has stepped up! Some church members have attended Base Camp (basic West Africa church-planting training) and are working out plans for their “vision trip.” Pray for this church and for Debbie, Teresa and Steve as they lead their church in going, sharing Christ through stories, discipling the people, and starting churches among the Foodo!

“How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints For the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.” (Psalm 84:1-2, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, encouraging you to pray for those attending various camps.

Jared and Nicole Mallet*, workers reaching the Deaf of Europe, have teamed with another worker from Canada to lead a Deaf summer camp in Hungary. Approximately 50 Deaf are attending. They are from four different countries, and are communicating in four different sign languages. How amazing and wonderful our God is for bringing these Deaf individuals to the camp so they may know the Good News about Jesus!

In Southeast Asia, a StoryOne Base Camp was held for the purpose of crafting, videotaping and distributing Bible stories in sign languages. During that time, believers crafted, videotaped and distributed eight Bible stories in two languages. One man was not able to come, so he recruited two other Deaf to take his place. Twenty-two people, with four languages/cultures and all ages, participated; and no drama, arguments or major misunderstandings occurred--a true picture of how the body of Christ should work. Each of the participants hopes to come back for the two more camps scheduled for later this year. With the exception of a plague of “Asian gnats” that swarmed the room for about three hours, there were no major incidences, and even the infestation turned into a blessing—well, what some would call a blessing. The nationals collected the bugs and fried them up for breakfast . . . delicious!

* Please pray for the Deaf of Southeast Asia who attended the StoryOne Base Camp, thanking God for the way He is working in their lives.

* Ask God to open the hearts of the Deaf campers as His love is shared with them and pray for many to make a decision to follow Jesus.

* Intercede for the salvation of thousands of children and adults who are attending camps and Vacation Bible School this summer.

“Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.” (Isaiah 59:1, NKJV)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer of Antigua and Barbuda (eastern Caribbean Sea).

NORTH AFRICANS OF BELGIUM - “Assassins,” “killers,” “lazy” . . . these are just a few descriptions that you will often hear when a Belgian is describing a person of North African descent. In light of the killings that took place in May in this country at a Jewish Museum by a man of North African descent, these impressions have not improved. A spirit of fear, unrest, mistrust and hatred continues to grow in the local community. Pray for the Belgian community and for the families of the deceased as they heal from the shock of that horrible event. Pray for the local evangelical churches, asking that they will feel a sense of urgency to reach out to the North African community around them. Pray for the salvation of the man who was apprehended for the killings. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).
nabteam@pobox.com

SOUTH TOKYO, JAPAN (TOH-kyoh) - In Tokyo, you can see all kinds of families: They may be retired couples, newlywed couples, couples with young children where the wife stays at home, or couples where both spouses are working either fulltime or part time. Some of these families may have junior high, high school or college-age children who are gone so much of the day that they hardly see each other. On the trains and buses, you can see the faces of many of these family members who are busy going to places 30 minutes to an hour away from their homes. How do you share God’s love with these people? Recently one missionary couple found that the words of 1 Corinthians 13 spoke to all of these kinds of families. One retired couple, after sharing about their son’s recent wedding ceremony and hearing these famous words at a wedding chapel, asked, “How can the average Japanese hear these words? Where can you go to be taught about this kind of love? If more people used these words as their model, we would have a much better world!” A young mother, hearing these words about God’s kind of love, said “This is so difficult, but I know it’s important to try.” A single woman who works with senior adults but volunteers at a children’s community center said, “I hope I can find this kind of love someday.” Pray that more Japanese will be able to hear about this kind of love and learn that “God is love.”

“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11, NKJV)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Chief Minister Herbert B. Hughes of Anguilla (West Indies, east of Puerto Rico).

BAPTIST CONVENTIONS OF THE CENTRAL SAHEL (WEST AFRICA) - Dressed in beautiful African cloth representing the countries from which they come, they sing God’s praises, dance before the Lord, and exalt Him in English, French, and many languages of their nations. The West Africa Baptist women come together as a region every two years for fellowship and instruction in the Word. Although the Baptist women’s work may still be underdeveloped in their countries, as they create relationships with others, they see that they are not alone and that God is sustaining others through like problems, and they “catch a vision” for what they may be and do for God. Pray for the Regional West African Baptist Women’s Conference that will be held in Togo in August. Pray for the planning committee and the speakers. The task is huge. Remember also the difficult, long travel the attendees will be undertaking. Pray that they will grow abundantly in Christ and be able to take home spiritual lessons to share with others.

EUROPEAN PEOPLES - Sports and recreation seem to go hand in hand with summer. Children, and adults as well, love to get outside and be active during the warm months of the year. This summer, IMB personnel in Germany and Austria will be trying to connect with children, youth and grownups through baseball, basketball, skateboarding, Taekwondo, football, and various other sports and activities. Intercede for relationships to be formed and for abundant opportunities for sharing God’s love and the Good News with those who participate. Petition that much fruit will come from these efforts.

“If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.” (Matthew 17:20b, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, giving thanks for answered prayer.

Last May, a volunteer team came to East Asia to share the Gospel with the Torch people. One particular day, their home church was praying that “Satan’s strongholds would come down and the Holy Spirit would move mountains.” The volunteers were in an area where the Gospel has been shared many times. That day, five Torch men were gathered. One of the volunteers began to sing: “Savior, He can move the mountains; my God is mighty to save.” The volunteers said they could feel the Holy Spirit overcome them. All five Torch men believed that day as the volunteers shared and the church members prayed. All glory to God!

North Brazil Team members Linny* and Milly*, a national couple, will soon begin working with the TA people. Linny and others prayerwalk and visit with people along the way in a project they call “House to House.” These prayerwalks help them to know where to do one-to-one witnessing using various human-needs activities.

A believing Tuareg family of the Sahara Desert was just beginning their day of prayerwalking when they met two women in the road. Fati* and Lela* were headed to town in search of food for their family. The family prayed that God would provide food for them and then continued on with their walk. A few days later, the family saw Fati and Lela again. This time they were running toward them, along with another friend who was sick, asking if they would pray for her too.

* Please pray that the Tuareg of the Sahara will see the power of prayer and that the Father desires to meet their needs.

* Pray that Linny will find “people of peace” in the TA restricted area, especially among his mother’s family.

* Intercede for the many volunteer teams that are in East Asia with the Torch people that further strongholds will come down.

“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you.” (2 Thessalonians 3:1, NKJV)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos of Angola (southwestern Africa).

BASOTHO OF LESOTHO AND SOUTH AFRICA (BAH-soo-too) - “Not really sure when it happened or how it happened. Can’t say that we weren’t warned years ago at our field personnel orientation. I really think that I thought that I was exempt from wearing out and wearing down. How can underlying stress and fatigue exhibit itself in a physical way when you have no idea you are even tired? When you love your job as a missionary as much as I do, it seems impossible to think that I could be weary . . . but apparently I am. I am asking you to pray for this missionary as I learn to take time to renew and refresh. Pray that in the midst of our crazy, busy lives, I will learn to value the still, quiet moments.”

CENTRAL ASIAN PEOPLES COMMUNICATION TEAM - You have been praying since January for the completion of a graphic-novel version of the New Testament. Praise God for the publication and release of this Action Bible! Please continue to pray that God will open the doors for these books to be spread broadly so that people will be able to hear and understand the Good News of Jesus.

“For God speaks time and again, but a person may not notice it. In a dream, a vision in the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber on their beds.” (Job 33:14-15, HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, praying with you for those on the verge of spiritual decisions.

The believers who make up the Red*, Card* and Purple* teams in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, have been frequently amazed as they share the Gospel. With each day, God is showing them His hand at work as they meet people who want to learn more. One believer said, “There’s something pretty amazing when I begin to share the Gospel with someone and they get a bit of a confused look on their face. I know that it’s because they have never heard this before, and God has given me the blessing of being the first to tell them!”

A Kurdish woman of Central Asia, Saheeb*, is struggling in her search for Truth, but she continues to process and question. Her husband, Mustafa*, has also shown interest, commenting that he sees true love in the way her believing friends love her despite the language barrier.

After several weeks of free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in the suburbs of Paris, one woman has shown strong interest in studying God’s Word. On a recent Saturday, around a table with coffee and tea and while children played in the background, this mother and two Muslim-background believers had a holy experience in Bible study. A man from the Middle East has also been coming to the ESL classes but does not yet grasp his own spiritual condition. A man from North Africa had recently been praying for his friend Bobby* to have dreams and visions of Jesus after a long spiritual conversation. God has answered his prayer.

* Please pray that God will use this dream to soften Bobby’s heart so that he will be open to Scripture and will come to salvation through Jesus.

* Praise the Lord for stirring the hearts of Saheeb and Mustafa and pray for their salvation.

* Pray for consistent follow-up of new believers in Vietnam with obedience-based discipleship that will result in new, multiplying churches.

“In an acceptable time I have heard You, and in the day of salvation I have helped You.” (Isaiah 49:8a, NKJV)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Head of Government Antoni Marti of Andorra (principality between France and Spain).

EAST ASIAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - The Digao are located in central Yunnan province, China. They number approximately 29,000 and are considered to be part of the Yi minority. There are no known Digao believers, even though a Catholic priest lived among them from 1910 until 1933. They are mostly farmers who live among the Han Chinese and also other minority people groups. Generally only the older Digao can speak their mother tongue. They are an animistic people, and still have ceremonies annually to honor their ancestors. They continue to live in fear of evil spirits and consult shamans about spiritual matters. Please pray that the Digao people will hear about Jesus and His Good News. Pray that they will be freed from the bondage of evil spirits and ancestor worship. Petition for Christian workers to take the Gospel to the Digao people.
http://prayerthreads.imb.org

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN PEOPLES - “On July 29 through August 5, eight men who are representing their churches will be ‘searching out the land’ in East Africa, as a big effort is being made to try to connect churches in the United States with unengaged and unreached people groups. Please pray for these representatives, as well as four of our own IMB personnel and translators, as they visit some of those who have never heard the Gospel. Please ask God to open the doors for churches to join us in reaching the lost and to give them a heart to adopt a people group as their own.”

“All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD. All the families of the nations will bow down before You, for kingship belongs to the LORD; He rules over the nations.” (Psalm 22:27-28, HCSB)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga of American Samoa (southwestern Pacific Ocean).

LAST FRONTIER - As workers seek to expand the reach further into the Last Frontier people group, they ask you to pray for grace to be given to one partner who has taken on a new leadership role. He has much work to do to recover the image and influence that was lost due to his predecessor. Please ask the One who makes all things new, who restores what was lost and who renews our hope, to give this new leader the strength of character and the influence in his community to do what is right and to have a powerful story to tell each time he opens his mouth (Colossians 4:4).

NORTHERN AFRICAN AND MIDDLE EASTERN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - From the Arabian Desert of the Arabian Peninsula to the Sahara Desert of northern Africa, the Chaamba Bedouin traversed over time to their new home. These Bedouin shepherds are nomadic, and to this day they still trek around the desert. They live in portable tents that provide a place for the mothers and children to hang out and for the men to entertain in the harsh desert. The Bedouin farmers are more localized, as they have taken up farming in the fertile soil on the outskirts of the desert. Their lifestyle has a more permanent feel. Whether the Chaamba Bedouin roam the great desert or put down roots just outside the desert, they are lost. Actually, there are a few Chaamba believers who have left Islam. In Islamic law, that is called apostasy, and it is punishable by death. Pray that God will protect His Chaamba children and empower them to live the abundant life He provides. Pray that believers will translate Scriptures into Bedouin Arabic, their unique dialect, so they can have access to the truth in a language they can understand. Also pray that a group or groups of believers will adopt them and commit to stand in the gap for them so that many of them will be worshiping around the throne of God forever.
