| Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST July 3, 2014 “For the LORD hears the poor.” (Psalm 69:33a, NKJV) A NOTE FROM THE PRAYER OFFICE: IMB will be closed on Friday, July 4, due to the “Independence Day” holiday, so “Today’s Prayer will not be available on that day. Thank you. WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk of Ukraine (southeastern Europe, north of the Black Sea). ABIDJAN, COTE D'IVOIRE (ab-i-JAHN) - What if you had to do your job without ever having any training or anyone who could explain what to do? What if your pastor had never been to seminary or your Sunday School teachers didn’t have teaching materials or commentaries to use? In Abidjan, many national churches are dealing with a reality like this. Church leaders and even pastors are trying to lead without the basic benefits that Americans take for granted. Pray for a gathering of pastors’ wives on July 8-12, as they get together to pray and study God’s Word. In Abidjan, the wife of the pastor is often a leader in the church, with responsibilities ranging from leading the women to leading prayer and evangelism and often Sunday School classes. Because educational opportunities and study resources are limited, our Baptist leaders depend on conferences and retreats to get the knowledge they need to be good leaders. Pray that those who bring a message to the women at this retreat will be faithful to God’s Word and that the teaching will be sound. Pray that the women will hear and understand how to put the teaching into action in their own lives. Pray that each of the women will have the means to travel to the retreat and pay their registration fee. Pray that this will be a time when these women are renewed and equipped to be the leaders God has called them to be. MALTESE OF MALTA (MAHL-teez) - Sand, tourists, nationals, sun, sweat, puppets, crafts, and Bible stories . . . these are all commonly found in Malta in July! This tiny Mediterranean island is home to 440,000 Maltese and more than a million tourists a year, most of whom can be found at the seaside in July. Pray for IMB personnel and Maltese believers, as well as short-term workers, who will be taking this opportunity to share the Good News among the crowds on the walkways and beaches. Rather than inviting people inside to something, they have discovered that going out to where people already are and catching their interest with something makes it possible to speak with so many more people. Family festivals with puppet shows, crafts, and Bible stories are fun for all and have the added benefit of allowing seeds of Truth to be planted. Ask that Maltese believers will be bold in sharing with their friends and family while out by the sea this summer. Lift up visitors from closed countries who have access to the Gospel for perhaps the first time, and ask that they will have “divine appointments” with believers. May their time in the sun lead them to the Son!
