“The LORD is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.” (Proverbs 15:29, HCSB)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria (northern Africa).

NU OF COLOMBIA (noo) - Thirteen years ago, when national missionaries Lia* and John* were in the capital city awaiting the birth of their first child, they hosted a Nu woman who was sick. They couldn’t yet speak the language of the Nu people, so they were only able to attend to her physical needs and pray for her. One of their prayers was that one day, this woman would have the chance to hear the Gospel message. This past month, this same woman came for medical treatment to the small town where Lia and John live. This time she was fighting tuberculosis. Lia and John can now speak her language, and as they cared for her physical needs, they shared Bible stories with her. She made a decision to follow Jesus and then asked them a question: “If you knew about this when I was with you before, why didn’t you tell me about it then? Why did you wait so long?” Lia explained that at that time, she couldn’t speak the language of the Nu people, and so she couldn’t share the message with her. The woman understood, but the question was haunting . . . and remains so for others who have yet to hear. Pray that those Nu who have not had a chance to hear--because they live in an area of the country where security concerns prohibit travel--will have an opportunity to hear. Ask God to open doors and provide ways and strategies to reach them. (*pseudonyms)

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - There are many things in this world that we try to keep our children from experiencing, such as bullies at school, the news that someone in the family has cancer, or problems in the family. We change the television channel when there is a shooting, an earthquake or a flood. Bad things happen all over the world and, unfortunately, we can’t guard our children from everything. Imagine trying to raise your children in a slum area in Africa. Imagine knowing that there isn’t any food for today and your children will go to bed with an empty stomach. Imagine your children just hanging out in the slum during the day because there isn’t enough money for them to go to school. This is a reality for many mothers and children in Angola. These mothers can’t shield their children from these terrible things. But as Christians who believe in the power of prayer, we can do the best thing to guard these children. We can pray! In fact, that is what Jesus called us to do, because He hears our prayers and intercedes on our behalf before God. Let’s lift up the little children of Angola who are living without hope. Let’s also pray for the mothers, as they try their best to provide for their children. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Let it be so!
