He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:37b-38, NASB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for volunteer teams. A group of eager young professionals from the United States who want to impact lostness have traveled to the coast of East Africa. They have foregone the comforts of home for three weeks so they can lead Swahilis to eternal comfort. They will endure the heat and humidity so they can bring Living Water to thirsty souls. At the end of July, eight music volunteers from a neighboring country and two local mentors will visit the churches of Eastern Hills and Sea Cities, East Asia, again. They will lead special praise meetings and music trainings for five days. Additionally, they will intensively train some of the talented people with four or five different kinds of musical instruments each day. When these volunteers visited last year, the local partners really enjoyed learning. The greater Bangkok metropolitan area has a population of approximately 15 million people. Ninety-five percent of the Thai people are Buddhist, and less than 1 percent are Christian. This summer, several volunteer teams have partnered with the Bangkok Metro Team. One team of six university students from Washington has come for two months to help plant a church on a large university campus. Another team of university students from Texas has come for four weeks to help reach another university campus and work with an existing church. Others are coming to teach English and share the story of “Creation to Christ.” * Please pray for the Thai people to have open hearts to hear the Gospel and to respond in faith. * Intercede for all the meetings and trainings in East Asia to be effective and unhindered. * Pray for this young professional team, asking that they will find favor in the eyes of the community and that many Coastal Swahili people will hear the Gospel message in a way that they can understand. |
