“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27b, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, praying with you for those facing medical concerns.

“Boom-ba-boom-boom” can be heard hauntingly through the night around us. Toposa women of South Sudan are beating the animal-skin drums to call upon their ancestors to help heal the sick in the villages and to bring rain to the gardens. These practices are done in the dark, and none of the ones participating will admit that they are part of this. Believers in the village plead with the women to stop, and share with them that it is not pleasing to God.

Months ago ’Ntate John*, a new Basotho believer, suffered a stroke. Living in an African country with limited medical care, it was doubtful that he would ever walk again. At Easter this year in a tiny village tucked into the Maluti Mountains, ’Ntate John preached his very first sermon. His voice echoed, “The Bible says Jesus Christ is not dead! He is alive!” Standing on his own two feet, ‘Ntate John was smiling and full of hope.

Hannah* is the mother of a very sick daughter who herself wakes up often in the middle of the night with a great heaviness crushing her chest. Unable to sleep, Hannah telephones her own mother, who tries to calm her. Hannah said, “I’m afraid and have no peace.” Worry floods her life. A believer asked, “Would you like to know how you can have peace?” Hannah responded, “Yes.” Carefully and clearly the worker shared about Jesus, the One who came to save us.

* Please pray for Hannah, and others like her living in this Last Frontier location, that she will turn to Jesus who is able to heal her fears and her daughter of her illness.

* Intercede for ’Ntate John as he steps up in leadership and faithfully tells others the Story
of Jesus.

* Pray for the believers standing up against the darkness that surrounds them, and pray for the hearts to be softened of those partaking in the witchcraft.
