Tamil-speaking Hindus make up approximately 7 percent of Sri Lanka’s population. Outwardly gentle and hard-working, with a family-oriented society, the Hindus have become successful in politics and business. A weak sort of religious tolerance now rests between the Sinhalese Buddhists and Tamil Hindus, on the condition of non-conversion. When Jesus is injected into the conversation, the typical response of a Tamil Hindu is, “I believe in Jesus too.” Diaspora: it means the dispersion or spread of any people from their homeland. There is a large diaspora of Gujaratis in East Africa--approximately 200,000. This people group has been in Kenya for 100 years, so the majority who are there now, while Gujarati by culture and belief, may have never been in the state of Gujarat in India. A group of people whose focus is on evangelism in Gujarat traveled to Kenya, training believers in how to reach out to the Gujarati community and looking for seekers among the diaspora. Driving down the roads of Bali, nestled among thousands of temples to Hindu gods, you will pass an occasional church. However, many of God’s children have been lulled asleep and have grown dull to God’s command to “disciple the nations.” This is because of authorities telling them that they can’t share, fear of persecution by the established religion, or not truly understanding the lostness of those who don’t know Jesus and what their end will be. Most don’t even see evangelism and discipleship as a command for their lives. * Please pray for pastors in Bali to lead their church members in taking up their cross and proclaiming the glory of God. * Intercede for the Gujarati of Kenya and the Tamil-speaking Hindus of Sri Lanka, praying for believers to willingly reach out to them with the Good News. * Ask God to open doors for you to share His truth with Hindus in your circle of acquaintances. |
