“These are the things you must do: Speak truth to one another; make true and sound decisions within your gates.” (Zechariah 8:16, HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, giving thanks for the use of media resources.

Several thousand people in a Soninke village have had opportunity to see the “JESUS” film in the Soninke language because the local television station broadcast the film over several consecutive days. Mark*, who is from that same village but lives in Dakar, Senegal, is personally counting the cost of following Jesus. There are no known believers in Mark’s village.

The Zerma Team’s journeyman, as well as two “Hands On” missionaries, completed their terms of service in December. They were the first ones to share Christ in “Tree” village and “GK” village, two hours away from Niger’s capital. The “JESUS” film and weekly Bible stories were shared with people who had never heard the Good News. Praise God for the faithfulness of the three young women who were obedient to come and share God’s love with the Zerma people.

The “Prophet Story” is a nine-minute “Creation to Christ” video story that highlights God’s plan to save people through the sacrifice of His Son. The Central Asian People Communication team is working to get this video translated and dubbed into as many Central Asian languages as possible--specifically the languages of the North Caucasus.
Translators, voice actors, and sound recordists are still needed before the team will be able to get this story into these remaining languages that, as of yet, have no access to the gospel.

* Please pray for protection over those involved in working on these translations and dubbing projects so that many new language groups can hear the gospel.

* Pray for the spiritual seeds that were planted in Niger to grow deep in the fertile soil and for God’s Word, will, and purpose to be accomplished in the lives of the Zerma.

* Ask Him to use this ‘Prophet Story’ video to convict many of sin and righteousness and the only way to escape the coming judgment for sins.

“In an acceptable time I have heard You, and in the day of salvation I have helped You.” (Isaiah 49:8a, NKJV)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2, NKJV). Please pray for President Enrique Pena Nieto of Mexico (southern North America).

SUSU OF GUINEA (SOO-soo) - “Much as I would like to report that Ebola is on its way out, that just isn’t the case. There continues to be much fear and distrust here. People choose not to seek medical help, or do not report suspected cases of Ebola. Some of those being monitored after being exposed to Ebola go into hiding; families continue to try to impede health workers from safely burying victims of the disease. Recently in a neighborhood on the outskirts of the capital, health workers, officials (including the governor of Conakry), and some ambassadors who were in the process of dedicating a new Ebola treatment center in that neighborhood were driven out by the local people, and their equipment was vandalized. Instead of recognizing that this center would help people get the assistance they need, they saw it as a threat and an effort to bring the disease into their community. As I write this, I am reminded of how our Savior came into this world to bring healing and restoration; He was despised and rejected by those He came to save. Pray that Satan’s schemes to promote chaos and hysteria will be thwarted. Pray that people will hear, recognize and accept the truth--not just about this disease, but also about the Savior who loves them and died for them. Lift up health workers and believers as they work to raise awareness and educate the people. Pray for many opportunities for them to share the truth of God’s Word.”

YEMEN - Socotra is an island off the coast of Yemen. It has been less affected by the recent political turmoil than the rest of the country has been, and it has a history of Christianity. According to oral tradition, the apostle Thomas brought Christianity to the island, and as recently as 400 years ago, there were Socotri churches. Pray for Socotri hearts to open to the gospel again, and pray that the church will be re-planted on the island of Socotra during these difficult days for Yemen.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1Thessalonians 5:16-18, NKJV)

Please pray for President Daniel Zaidini of Mayotte (island off the coast of southern Africa, between Mozambique and Madagascar).

CENTRAL ASIAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - Bareena* and her son Anwar* heard the gospel and believed in Christ two years ago in the capital city of Dagestan, Russia. Hundreds of miles away, Teemur* also heard and believed the Truth while working as a construction worker in Moscow. Teemur, Bareena and Anwar are the first known believers among the 30,000 Muslim Rutul (pronounced ROOH-toohl) people of Russia. Praise the Lord! Pray that God will strengthen these new believers through the Holy Spirit so that they will be firmly established and able to comprehend fully the depth of Christ’s love for them. Pray that God will use Teemur, Bareena and Anwar for the expansion of the gospel across many Rutul families, clans and villages. (*names changed)

HONG KONG AND MACAU, CHINA (ma-COW) - The number of evangelical believers in Hong Kong and Macau is small in comparison to their respective populations. In Hong Kong, with a population of 7 million, approximately 6 percent are followers of Christ; while in Macau, 1.3 percent claim Jesus as Lord amid a population of 631,000. With the vast majority of Chinese in both cities having strong ties to Chinese folk religion, there is resistance to the gospel; yet the faithful in Hong Kong and Macau remain diligent in sharing the Good News, whether by word or deed. The spirit of darkness needs to be broken. Will you pray that this barrier will be broken so that many will be free to hear the Good News? Also pray that the faithful will remain in Him as they proclaim Jesus Christ throughout these two cities.

“My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And Your salvation all the day, For I do not know their limits.” (Psalm 71:15, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for the spread of the gospel through Bible storying.

In Karnataka State, India, workers share, “Since the September 2014 workshop, we have seen 63 new believers and 11 new groups form! Praise God! Praise Him, also, for how we have been led to work with an amazing group of nine local leaders through the StoryTogether project. Lift up all the people who have heard the Truth and will hear it through the work of this project. “

There are chronological Bible storying groups in three Jola-Fonyi villages of Senegal and the Gambia. It is desirable for those who are secret believers to come forward for baptism and tell their friends and families about Jesus.

Recently (and unexpectedly) a door opened for chronological Bible teaching to begin in “Weaver Bird,” a very remote village in coastal Mozambique. As far as the missionaries can tell, the gospel has never been proclaimed there by any group. The village is most easily accessed by bicycle or on foot. The people of “Weaver Bird” practice African traditional religion; however, Islam has arrived via the vendors who arrive weekly to sell their goods on market day. In the first couple of encounters, the people of “Weaver Bird” told the missionaries, “It would be good to hear what the Bible says. Maybe it can answer our questions.”

* Please pray for the Lomwe people of “Weaver Bird” and the Jola-Fonyi of these three villages to have ears to hear and hearts to accept the truth of Scripture.

* Intercede for the 11 new groups that have formed in India, asking that they will be led by our local leaders to form healthy churches.

* Pray for missionaries in every culture as they seek to methodically lay a foundation of faith from the Old Testament, leading up to a full explanation of why Jesus came and why we all need Him as our Deliverer.

“All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD. All the families of the nations will bow down before You, for kingship belongs to the LORD; He rules over the nations.” (Psalm 22:27-28, HCSB)

Please pray for Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius (island in western Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar).

NEW LABORERS FOR THE HARVEST - The first Missions Expo of 2015 will take place over the next three days. Please cover the event with intercession, asking God to direct each person involved, whether they are applicants exploring ministry options or IMB staff guiding them in that process. Pray that nothing will hinder God’s will being discerned in the coming days. Pray, too, that all will clearly hear God’s voice and step out in obedience, whatever He says.

WOLOF OF SENEGAL AND THE GAMBIA (WUHL-uf) - “Join our team in giving thanks and praise to God! Some of our team members had been working in a nearby village, where they had met a young mother of twin girls, a little over 1 years old. One of the girls was not able to walk or crawl; in fact, she was the size of a 6- or a 7-month-old baby. Last year, a volunteer team working with us showed the mother how to mix a milk formula to aid malnutrition. The team from the United States sent liquid vitamins back for the child. The little girl is now able to walk and to play with her sister and the other village children. By the looks of her now, you would never know how small and sickly this child had been just a year ago. On a recent visit, one of our team members told a group of women outside of the girls’ compound that they and the team in the U.S. have been praying for the child in the name of Jesus. She told them that Jesus had heard and answered their prayer and helped this little girl (Matthew19:14-15). To God be the glory!”

“The LORD is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.” (Proverbs 15:29, HCSB)

Please pray for Prime Minister Yahya Ould Hademine of Mauritania (northern Africa, between Senegal and western Sahara).

AMAZON PEOPLES OF THE AMAZON RIVER BASIN (AM-uh-zahn) - “At that time . . . many false prophets will appear and deceive many people” (Matthew 24:10-11). The Amazon Peoples Team asks: “Please pray fervently for the work of our team. We have been working with four people groups for more than five years now. The people have come to the point where they are ready to make commitments to follow our Lord. Several weeks ago, a cult from the southern part of the country appeared in the river town. They began making visits and teaching false doctrine to many who have been studying the Word with us. They even baptized five people who were some of our most faithful participants. Please pray that God will intervene to stop the work of this cult. Pray that He will open the eyes of the people so they can see that the teachings of the cult are false and not biblical. Ask God to give the people the courage to stand up against these false prophets.”

PEOPLE OF THE SWAN AREA, EAST ASIA - “In the SWAN area cities, we can’t take privacy for granted. The day I’m thinking of, the morning was grey and drizzly. Travel to the location was uneventful. As discretely as possible, with heads down, we entered and then exited the elevator. Upon entering the quiet, dimly lit apartment, I was surprised to see no one. We were directed to wait in a small room. We could hear muffled voices in one of the other rooms around the corner. A short time later, we were directed to that room. It was small (about 12 foot square) but filled with national believers who wanted more. They wanted more of the Word. They wanted to grow. They wanted to be better equipped. They wanted more of Christ! They had just finished a time of fervent prayer. We were there to remind them to glorify Him and to make disciples; to show them how better to share their stories--and The Story! They were excited and eager to learn. I learned the most and was encouraged, because in a place where ‘to not believe’ is the standard, I was surrounded by His children. Please pray for these and others like them who have believed, asking that they’ll never cease to glorify Him and make disciples. Pray also for all of those in the SWAN cities who’ve not yet heard; they are many! Ask the Father to raise up effective leaders among His people here, and workers to work in His harvest field worldwide.”

“O may Your lovingkindness comfort me, According to Your word to Your servant.” (Psalm 119:76, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, praying with you for refugees.

A crowded train station in the northern part of Italy signifies the arrival of a new wave of Syrian refugees who are fleeing their country and funneling through Italy in their pursuit of a better life. Tired, hungry and overwhelmed, they search out the route to Germany, Sweden, Denmark, or any other European country where they have heard there is work or a distant relative. As immigrants funnel through this major metropolis daily, pray that the Father, who gives new life, will help local believers meet their physical needs and share the hope and love of Jesus.

There are approximately 500,000 Sorani and Behdini Kurdish refugees living in a certain Central Asian city, and that number rises daily. Many of them escaped their homes with only the clothing on their backs and what they could carry. They live in tents, abandoned buildings, schools, churches, under bridges, etc. You can see the loss of human dignity they suffer on a daily basis, from cleaning themselves in toilet water to fighting over a small bag of clothes. If you watched the news this summer, you undoubtedly heard about the plight of the Yezidi people. They are a distinct Kurdish people group who practice a different religion than those around them. Many of them have suffered great persecution as a result of their religious and cultural differences, and they continue to suffer. Right now their main concern is surviving the winter and the rainy season.

* Please pray for provision for the immediate physical needs of hundreds of thousands of refugees as they cope with harsh physical conditions.

* Intercede for the local church as they rise up and care for its own and for workers to be sent into this harvest field of unreached peoples.

* Pray for refugees that they will hear of the hope found in Christ Jesus and respond with, “Yes, I believe.”

“The LORD is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.” (Proverbs 15:29, HCSB)

Please pray for President Christopher Jorebon Loeak of Marshall Islands (midway between Australia and Hawaii).

MANDINKA OF WEST AFRICA (man-DINK-uh) - “We are bumped and jostled over the narrow dirt path as tree branches slap our vehicle on either side. The road snakes around a bend, and we turn to see the first thatched-roof huts on the outskirts of Village S. Kids rush onto the path to greet us as we dodge baby goats, chickens and sheep sunning themselves on our trail. We stop to greet the chief before making our way to our host’s compound. As soon as the women spot us, they begin grabbing step stools and wooden benches to line up along the cement wall. Children scramble to find a seat on the ground nearby. We greet and exchange small talk until everyone finishes their tasks and are gathered. While the story is being shared, I notice many young boys hanging on the other side of the wall. They don’t even try to hide their interest as they listen intently to the stories being shared. While their participation would be unthinkable in this culture, I can’t help but think that the next generation of leaders is standing outside those gates, hearing every word. Pray not only that the mothers will come to know Christ, but also that the message will touch the hearts of these young boys.”
pray4mnk@pobox.com

MOROCCO - Camel caravans travel through wadis during the dry season, when there is no water in them. They are dry riverbeds with sand or gravel and some vegetation from underground water. They serve as a sort of road or “way” in the desert. During the rainy season, these same wadis become active rivers, even if just for a day, following heavy rains. While unexpected, it sometimes happens that the rains are heavy and frequent enough to cause flash flooding in these wadis, and thus in the desert. The year 2014 had one such rainy season in Morocco, one in which flash flooding hit the Sahara Desert. Who would have thought it? So much powerful water in such a dry and barren place! But this possibility has been foretold: “Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs” (Isaiah 35:6b-7a, NIV). On an average day, the thought of floods in the desert seems impossible; likewise, the thought of masses of Muslims becoming followers of Jesus seems equally impossible. The desert provides a picture of what the Lord can do, in His time. Pray for God to bring forth a flood of new believers in Morocco, for nothing is impossible with God! Also pray for God, in His mercy and compassion, to provide for those who lost their homes, family and livelihood in the recent floods.

“Our God…We do not know what to do, but we look to You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12b, HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, continuing to pray with you over the outbreak of the Ebola virus.

One worker wrote, “It seemed unreal to think that the Center of Disease Control’s projected number of Ebola cases would really reach 20,000 by the end of the year. At the time the projection was made, there were only 1,900 cases in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, but the projections have proven true and the list of infected countries now includes Mali, Spain, and the United States. Ebola is ‘no respecter of persons.’ It prowls around seeking believers as well as members of unengaged, unreached people groups (UUPGs). We praise the Lord for the healing we are seeing in Liberia, with the number of cases declining, but we continue to pray fervently for the other countries and especially for Sierra Leone, where cases continue to surge upward. Many members of UUPGs are dying without having the opportunity to hear and trust in the name of Jesus.”

One believer wrote, “I’ve been praying about the Ebola epidemic for eight months, since it first came to Guinea. At the beginning, I prayed only that God would end this horrible plague, but as time has gone by, He has changed my prayers to include interceding that people would be drawn to Him because of this devastating disease. My prayer has become like Jehoshaphat’s in 2 Chronicles 20:12b, when a vast army arose to attack Judah: ‘We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.’ The Lord told Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah that the battle did not belong to them, but to God. So Jehoshaphat trusted the Lord and the Lord delivered them.”

* Please pray for God’s deliverance but also pray for spiritual eyes to be open to His Truth as individuals continue to face this physical crisis.

* Ask the Lord to send in servants under His protection to heal the sick and to proclaim His name.

* As you deal with trials cry out in confident hope, “I do not know what to do, but my eyes are on You, Jesus.”
