Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST January 13, 2015 “All the nations You have made will come and bow down before You, Lord, and will honor Your name.” (Psalm 86:9, HCSB) WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2, NKJV). Please pray for President Gjorge Ivanov of Macedonia (southeastern Europe, north of Greece). KURMANJI KURDS OF CENTRAL ASIA (ker-MAHN-gee) - The Kurds are the largest ethnic group in the world without a nation of their own. With more than 20 million people spread out over Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Armenia, the Kurmanji-speaking (pronounced ker-MAHN-gee) Kurds are the most populous language group among the Kurds. As a result of the severe government opposition against the Kurds in Central Asia and the Middle East, a popular proverb among them is: “The Kurds have no friends but the mountains.” Another similar expression is even blunter: “The Kurds have no friends!” Nearly 99 percent of Kurmanji Kurds are Muslims, though many in name only. Most are Sunni, but there are also smaller populations of Alevi and Yezidi. Kurds generally hold to Islam less tightly than other Muslim people groups in the area, and many have become disillusioned with Islam due to the oppression they’ve endured at the hands of the surrounding Muslim ethnic majorities. At present, there are several hundred Kurmanji Kurd believers sprinkled throughout the world, but fewer than 10 evangelical churches are known to exist among them in their historic homeland. Moreover, none of these churches worship in the heart language of the Kurmanji Kurds. Despite repeated efforts to mobilize evangelists and church planters to work among them, there are still dozens of Kurdish cities of more than 50,000 people with virtually no access to the gospel. The New Testament is available in Kurmanji, and continuing efforts are underway to develop more resources. Please pray for the salvation of the Kurmanji Kurds. SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - “In March, you prayed for the Loma (pronounced LOH-mah) of Liberia who were undergoing persecution from members of the devil’s secret society. We asked you to pray that the believers would remain strong, that their faith would grow, that the Lord would intervene with justice and power, and that the devil’s troops would continue to decrease for the glory of the Lord. Since that time, Ebola hit the hardest in that region of Liberia, causing the entire county to come under quarantine for months. Thousands of people died, but there was not one report of illness among our brothers in that area. Praise the Lord for His intervention! Not only that, but in one particular village that was quarantined, no one was allowed to leave or enter the village. A pastor reported that ‘no supplies could be brought in. They were in a desperate situation.’ He added, ‘However, they were having church every day all day long. Their little building was packed, and people were sitting on benches, stools, buckets and on the ground outside. The street was jammed in front of the church.’ He continued, ‘It reminds me of what Joseph told his brother: God uses what Satan intends for evil as something that will draw His special creation to Himself.’” For additional prayer requests, click here: Today’s Prayer (If you have difficulty with this link, please go to www.imb.org and click on the “Pray” tab, and then click on the “Today’s Prayer” link in the left-hand column.) |
