(1 Peter 1:6b-7, HCSB) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for those facing struggles. The EK people of Colombia living near the town of a national missionary have been displaced by security issues and the creation of a reservoir. They have fled to the bigger towns near their traditional homes. There are many of these EK people living around the edges of the town, in rustic conditions and without basic necessities. They have lost their homes and are struggling because they don’t fit in with the majority culture with which they are now confronted. In the midst of their struggles, many people are trying to connect with these EK displaced people. Sheen*, a national missionary, is sharing Bible stories in two different neighborhoods of EK people. She is also working with some of the EK leaders on a story set about the life of Jesus. For the Antandroy (an-tan-DREW-ee) of Madagascar there is little water for drinking, cooking or surviving in general. The days are hot, and the night doesn’t offer much relief. It’s dusty and dry. The people seek to find food simply to fill their bellies, without much regard to nutritional value. Sometimes they go days without food. The church plant in one town has been established and is flourishing, but the new pastor and his family suffer. It seems that their secular employment is not sufficient for meeting their basic needs. * Please pray that this couple in Madagascar, Gene* and Ruth*, will trust the Lord to meet their needs and that their determination in spite of struggle will be a powerful testimony to their neighbors and church family. * Intercede for Sheen as she continues to learn the EK language and culture, asking God to raise up well-discipled believers from these Bible studies. * Ask God to comfort those in your own congregation who are coping with intense struggles that they may persevere in faithfulness. *name changed |
